Update for Pakistanis living in big cities

Specially in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar Quetta. (mods merge this thread where ever you like)

Next few days are going to be be very crucial.

Already dozens fo med students and volunteer have gone to affected areas. But in the next two three days the govt (army) will bring injured to the hospitals of big cities …

Emergency was announced in all big hospitals on sunday, they say they have arranged 1000 beds initially and same number of beds in reserves (in lahore) same should be in karachi, peshawar, quetta. The hospitals in Islamabad, pindi and abotabad are already overflowing.

I anticipate large number of injured being shifted to big cities for surgery and treatment in C-130s.
Now what the people should remain prepared for casualties in tens of thousand being shifted to big cities

Donating blood ?

There would be shortage of Paramedic staff , doctors ? The shortage is evident in armed forces hospitals(CMH) cuase most of the staff is deployed in affected areas.

Shortage of medicine ?

I think there is a need of more medical student stay in the cities and report in hospitals there… firstly they are direly needed, secondly they will gain very precious experience :k:

Any opinions ? suggestions ?

Re: Update for Pakistanis living in big cities

very right said cody,
Also, many people are sayign that the affected people are not just in physical trauma they are in a state of shock and are unable to take care of themselves, therefore, uncooked food like cooking oil, rice, aata, etc is obviously ver imp but at the same time cooked food, in cans or sealed plastic bags, cooked rice, cooked roti, milk, should also be sent in great numbers. also matchsticks, lighters, ropes, spades, all sorts of tools...

and we also have to know that at this time we not only have to help the devastated, but also those who are at the front working 24/7 in person with their bare hands; the army and many other orgs and depts, they need our help too.

ppl can buy medicine, syringes, bandages, plain cloth, cotton wool, this equipment is much needed.

if ppl have big 4x4 vehicles parked in their garages not being used, they could take them out, carry loads, transport patients in collaboration with orgs.

Re: Update for Pakistanis living in big cities

unfortunately, all of that is for people close to the affected areas. anything people from karachi can do besides going to the collection sites?

Re: Update for Pakistanis living in big cities

There is few things guppies in pakistan can do and should do :

  1. Donate blood

  2. Apart from other things which are mentioned on tv repeatidley. If someone has something valueable like generators and emergency lights or any of other items which are technical and direly needed there like good quality torches search light and and battery cell, lalten(lamps) kerosine stoves etc( please think of other things which are required during camping ).

  3. Many of the those perished were school children, as they were in schools so many of the injured are children. They are being shifted to hospitals in big cities, most of them have lost parents and relatives… they are truamatized. Apart from every thing they need love and attention …

We can visit them and bring our old toys, hand held video games (they are cheap @ Rs 150~200 and available in all markets, thanks to china ) and other stuff for their recreation, as many of them have damaged bones and they might stay in hospitals for months. Imagine how it might feel emotionally when you are hospitalized and none of your relatives or friends visits you at all ! :teary3:

Pakistanis living outside pakistan :

If you plan to donate more, then, instead of anything else arrange good quality medicines, painkillers, injections, Multivitamins. There is plenty of food, blankets available, but Tents ( waterproof if possible) are direly needed, And also the technical stuff I mentioned above. If someone is arranging the stuff please keep it in mind. and avoid stuff which is available here in sufficient quantity. Remember there are about 4 million people homeless. thanks
