Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

So, as you’re all aware this is the campaigning season for Presidential contenders.

GOP has finished its’ primary informal vote count in Iowa yesterday with Mitt Romney gaining the most votes. This puts him in the first position, with Rick Santorum following a close 2nd, and Ron Paul at 3rd. Newt Gingrich was a no mention.

Next stop New Hampshire for these gentlemen, and hopefuls for Presidency.

In the meantime, President Obama finished his Hawaii vacation early to hit the campaign trail. Although I’m not aware of any major stops as of yet.

Who do you all think has the brightest chance of winning the GOP Nomination for President and Vice President respectively? What’s your take on the Democrats. Will President Obama be able to win a 2nd term keeping in mind that he withdrew forces from Iraq. He is withdrawing forces in Afghanistan, and he can claim to have hunted down and eliminated OBL.

Please also share why you think your expected candidate is most likely to win.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

This also just in this morning, Michelle Bachmann has quit her bid forWhite House bringing to an end her Presidential Campaign. The published reason cited is due to poor showing in Iowa.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

^No offence but why would muslims especially in pakistan be interested in the next leader of republican party who all of them hates muslims and wants to launch crusade in their countries year after year!

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Your sentiment is correct; however, for the Pakistanis residing in USA the bid for President should be big deal. Because whoever becomes the President will drive the policies, or at least pose to be the driving face of the policies.

It's good to know who has what policies, and how they'll effect minorities, and the candidates take on foreign policy.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

It seems like GOP establishment wants Mitt Romney, but him being a Mormon is a problem with christian conservatives. If Romney is the nominee, he might balance the ticket by picking someone like Bachmann or Rick Santorum to attract Evangelical votes.

Btw, I'm voting for Obama & I think he will win 2nd term b/c Republican field is too weak.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Ron Paul has the best policies of the bunch. In fact his policies on domestic and foreign policy are supreme to all the others' when it comes to realistic evaluation of what's really happening at home and abroad. Too bad they won't let him come to power because he'd step on a lot of powerful toes. Including the money printers.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

There was a guy who came on Maddow's show tonight - Buddy Roemer, he is an ex-congressman and ex-gov of Lousiana , who is not allowed to run - they keep changing the rules on him - need to get 1% of polls, then 2%, then have to announce, then have raise $X million. He is the sanest of the lot. Huntsman is OK too.

Paul is good on foreign affairs - against wars. He is known to have a shady racerelations past - and is pro-life.

The rest dont make any sense.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Interesting. Haven't heard of him before.

Why won't they let him contest? I mean, whose bad side did he get on?

I have heard of Huntsman, but don't know a whole lot about him. Just heard him shoot a few comments on a recent Radio talk show.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Both parties try to keep the little guys off the roster. In his case, he makes a lot of sense - so clearly not a fit for the crazies that occupy the current Republican party. I am vaguely familar with him - but the wife is a fan.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

I honestly dont care, kia ferq pata hai jeb seb ik jaisey hen ... ik dosre ki carbon copy hen ... remember how ppl used to say Obama is way better thn bush .. and his policies will be different ... well ... hes certainly not!!

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Ron Paul is insane, but then he is a libertarian, on the domestic issues. He believes too much in the good of the people that churches will educated people and people won’t let other people die on the road / hospital like it doesn’t happen already. It is clearly the libertarian slant that is comical, since Jon Stewart had judge napolitano (andrew napolitano? likes to call himself with judge :hehe: ) and the whole show was laughing about his ideas.

PS Buddy Roemer was on Colbert and has the same stance on campaign contributions as Paul. I do remember seeing his mug on one of the numerous republican debates, but the thing is that the “republican party” that elects people is so extreme that even Romney or Huntsman, not that he is going places, have to lurch to the right to remain even relevant. I mean if you look at Romney, then you have a governor who is promising like he had Romneycare in MA that is one of the best healthcare systems in the US, but due to the whole childish muslim communists kenyan socialist bill ayers obamacare phobia, he has to act stupid to remain in the GOP field. Perry is the next Palin, Bachmann is just crazy, newt needs to go f(ck some good looking chick other than his wife, and 9-9-9 needs to sell his pizza at 9.99.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Watching Republican debate. Ron Paul went after Gingrich for not going to Vietnam. Latter said he had a child. Ron Paul retorted - I had 2 - and I went.
Ron Paul was only person who spke out against ongoing wars and spoke up for veterans who have been sent on multiple duties - 8500 killed 40000 + injured. He also spoke up against the drug laws that unfairly target blacks more disproprtaionately.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

I like Ron Paul's policies for dealing with Wall Street but you can't just eliminate the Fed overnight. The US needs to nationalize the Fed, like every other country. Wall Street also needs to be curbed in by re-instituting the regulations.

And they definitely need to pull out of Afghanistan but given the nature of the situation, they have to do it gradually. And by gradually I mean within a few months or a year.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Ron Paul is crazy... ? he speaks more sense than Obama, more consistant and honest than most politicians. you call him crazy.... when the rest look like they've stepped out of the looney bin?

I don;t believe the racist slurs against him. I am rooting for Ron Paul. He is the only one that can save america from itself and yet the media tries to ignore him and dismiss him as unelectable. A pretty sad state of affairs.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

Actually GOP establishment is doing anything it could to beat Romney. They hate to see a Mormon as their leader.
This is why they have been betting on ALL horses one after another. Bachmaan, Perry, that Pizza guy, santorum, Gingrich, etc. All of them have enjoyed being front runner one time or another. While Romney's support has not moved up at all.
But in the end, Romney will probably win the candidacy because all others are more incompetent.

Re: Upcoming US Elections. GOP/DEM Campaign

And people like Bush and Santorum are genius. Right?

Ron Paul wants America to care for itself instead of waging wars for interest of other countries. This is not insanity. Insanity was Iraq war by Bush and promise of Iran war by likes of Santorum and Bachmann.
