Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

;)Sabse bada rupaiyya ???

Well, I think they deserve a pay hike after their performance in the WC. The bigger question is whether they would be allowed to play by the govt.

Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike: Cricket Next

Karachi: Pakistan cricketers are planning to encash their Twenty20 World Cup triumph and ask for a hike in the existing contracts with their respective Indian Premier League franchisees next season.

After IPL organisers announced that Pakistani players would be welcome to play next season subject to clearance from both governments, sources in the sports management company representing players like Misbah-ul-Haq, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul or Kamran Akmal said they are unlikely to play on their old contractual terms of USD 100,000 each.

“These players are now iconic figures after winning the T20 World Cup and it makes no sense that they should settle for old terms when other players are being paid in millions,” one source told PTI.
The Pakistani players could not take part in the second season of IPL this year after the Pakistan foreign ministry advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against sending players to India after the Mumbai terror attacks.

The franchisees concerned then either terminated or suspended the contracts of the Pakistani players who had represented them in the first season.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has said franchisees were free to play their Pakistani signings next season provided the governments of the two countries give the clearance.

“Recently a senior official of the sports management company visited India and met with Modi and other franchise officials regarding the contractual issues of the Pakistani players who were not informed whether they would receive payments as per their contracts or these were terminated or suspended because they didn’t play in the second season,” one source said.

He said the official had spoken to the IPL organisers about the possibility of Pakistani players taking part in the next IPL season.

“But now with the Pakistan having won the World Cup obviously the scenario has changed and it is unlikely the players will go back on their old contractual terms as they feel their value is greater now,” the source said.

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

Punjabee...................... Do you think they will hike it?

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

^ Yes, I think the franchisees will hike the fees but I am not sure if the govts. would allow them to play. After all the situation between India & Pak has not improved after 26/11.

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

^ its been a while, the bluster India/BCCI was engaging in is probably long gone. besides they can probably get better contracts elsewhere.

O.K But Do you think the last IPL was a success without Pak players?

I would be surprised if any other league can top IPL pay packets but if so, more power to them :)

Read a recent blog by Afridi where he said tha the Indian team did not look like it wanted to play with Pak in the warm-up game. I am sure that is a tone that BCCI set so it will be interesting to see what effect the cold relationship between the two countries has on IPL 3.

IPL 2 was not as big a success as IPL 1 because it was not held in India. Nothing to do with Pak players.

But that is just my opinion :)

dunno what the going rate for cricketers is these days, but usd 100k p.a. doesnt seem all that much.

their loss. its eventually a money making enterprise as far as the leagues go, the price hike reflects a higher expected value.

the whole situation of boycotts/players wanting more money to sell out by playing in an indian league makes me happy anyway

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

lol... Gul was the Best Fast bowler in last T20 Worlcup too, he was paid $150,000, on the other hand Ishant sharma who doesnt even desrve place in T20 lookin at his statistics was paid arnd $600,000 or $900,000 (dont remember exact numbers). I dont they they will be paid according to their standard.

Its just drama..... I think Paki players shld refuse to play IPL !

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

Shahrukh must have missed umar Gul's presence after the disaster. Where is Rajhastan's highest wicket taker ? Deccan sure wants to consolidate with mighty presence of humble Afridi. (MashaAllah)

USD 100k was just the rate for Pakistani players. Players like Gilchrist, Dhoni, Symonds, Pietersen are being paid in millions. However, that disparity should hopefully narrow down after Pak's performance in T20 WC.

I agree with the other points in your post :)

Exactly :k: I have the same opinion. So I do not think they will hike it.Moreover, once Pakis demand others will also start demanding. After T-20 we have Championship trophy.

Moreover,if they hike for Pakis, there will be an uproar in India.

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

I will be hardly surprised if they do not hike.

I think not having their Pak players hurt some franchisees in IPL 2 - Raj Royals & Knight Riders come to mind here. So those franchisees might be more open to hiking the fees. Ultimately it is going to come down to negotiations - whether the players need IPL more or IPL needs the players more.

Personally, I think that the all players need to be paid based on their performances and standing in T20. And on that basis the Pak players deserve to be paid higher than what they are currently getting since they are the WC winners

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

O.k anyway,let's see..... :)

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

Any other source? Frankly I don't trust Indians media especially when it concerns Pakistan.

Re: Upbeat Pakistan players ask IPL for pay hike

All the players mentioned in the article, i.e., Misbah, Sohail Tanvir, Umer Gul, Kamran Akmal were the players whose contracts were suspended, not cancelled. Which means they are still bound by the old contract for the old amount. If their contracts had been cancelled instead, they'd be free to sign new contract at the now higher prices. I guess the reason they were not revoked is the low price tag, and the already high value associated to those players. All of these players will now be worth upwards of $500,000 each. Their owners are not bound to offer them the higher prices, but might, to retain them for future.

All the players who had initially got the higher priced contracts had their contracts revoked. This includes Afridi for around $650,000, Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik for around $450,000. All of these players are free to sign fresh contracts, but only Afridi is bound to benefit from the new signings. He was already the highest paid Pakistani in the old contract, and he might be worth now around $900,000. Shoaib Malik will perhaps still fetch around $450,000 so it won't affect him at all. Shoaib Akhtar might find his price lowered, so he'll lose out.
