We have two flights of stairs at home .. and in a day I end up going up and down almost about 15 times :hinna:
The other day , I was with a friend , and told her , going up and down the stairs all day long gives me the exercise i need … and then she said , not really , coz randomly going up and down the stairs only causes stress to the knee joints … doesnt do you much as far as exercise is concerned :hinna:
When your heart beat goes up during the exercise, that is the point you burn calories. Walking up and down randomly maybe good but not as much as the continuous exercise is.
Here you go:
**Knee pain is commonly caused by doing too much too soon **when you haven't exercised for a long period of time - especially high-impact aerobics; walking, running or jumping on hard surfaces or uneven ground; excessive running up and down stairs (When you walk upstairs you are putting pressure on your knees that is equivalent to four times your body weight, when running up the stairs it can be eight times your body weight).
As for 'all the exercise you need' unless (as another poster said) you are increasing your heart rate and keeping it elevated for 20-30mins or feeling the 'burn' from working your muscles, it's not really doing anything.
Sounds to me like you really do need some real exercise if this has been your current regime!
does she not use her muscles and only uses knee joints when she goes up and down the stairs.
slap some sense into her will ya..
its not aerobic, but does not mean it is not exercise
