What I want to ask is, is it better to go for university accomodation or look for some other private accomodation.
The university accomodation is around 55-80 Pounds per week, including bills.
what is the better option ?

what is the univ housing like? are we talking about dorms or uni flats?
I thoroughly enjoyed university housing as an undergrad first the dorms then the fraternity, it was a lot of fun, things going on, met many wonderful people. My friends who were living in off campus apartments did not get that, however they got more space, peace and quiet, and in general more room. It was also easier to have your own place when family came to visit.

University Residences suck !!! No freedom, bad food, expensive etc.

A lot depends on your university. If you're a grad student then chances are you'll know your way around the area anyway and know other people in the same boat and could easily arrange a house share thats cheap as chips.
