What kinds of expectations did you have when you started your degree?
In hindsight, some of my expectations of my degree were too lofty. I did, however, expect to be more than just another “worker” who’s supposed to slave away 9 to 5 but instead works only when the boss is looking. I see people around a good 20 years older than I, who’re still in cubicles. I simply don’t understand this.
With an engineering degree (almost), the last thing I expected was to be another code monkey and that’s exactly what I’ve become.
Sorry for the rambling, I’ve come back from 12 hours of brain drain. Please, do share your opinions.
To get out of that you need to create your own business. Otherwise you are always going to be working for someone else within a structure that almost without even attempting forces the 9-5 work method.
Think about taking some organizational behaviour courses - they can do wonders for engineers :)

went to a class for one of these courses. found it extremely boring. I guess I'll look into them again. thanks
so, nobody else has any satisfaction issues with their degree(s)?
hmmm i kinda understand what u r saying but what exactly were ur expectations from ur degree? and what’s keeping u from reaching those expectations?
i dont think its abt the degree u have but abt u n what u wana do with ur degree n ur life…coz a degree is just academics…and what u end up doing in life is abt how u mould urself…there’s computer science majors who go into totally different fields too…its abt their vision for their lives…
being a comp sci major who also doesnt want to end up being a coder i feel like if i do end up doing a coding job any time in the future it will mean that i dont mind doing it despite what i say abt hating coding etc…
i dont wanna be a coder in the long term tho i might do that in the immediate short term..havent decided yet…
i know that if i do end up doing a job that i always said i dint wanna do then i’d have not my degree but myself to blame for not striving hard enough to reach what i envisioned…
so i think the satisfaction issue shud not be with ur degree but with urself and how much motivation u have to devote urself into reaching the expectations u have for urself…
