Re: University Personal Statements

LOL @ some of the responses.

When I applied, I wrote one paragraph about my background ... my family had newly immigrated to Canada back then and we were going through the initial transition period. I wrote about my work ethic and small accomplishments thus far despite all the challenges I'd had to face.

In the second paragraph, I wrote about 2-3 major extracurricular activities I had participated in during high school. Sort of like how in the cover letter we expand on a few important and relevant jobs/projects from our resume. Pick activities where you developed your leadership and people skills. For example, being on the executive team in student Council or winning a top-3 position in a case competition helps tremendously in making you stand out from the crowd.

My third paragraph was just thanking them for their consideration and re-iterating how much being accepted to this particular uni/program would help me achieve my long-term goals.

Do you have a word limit? Make sure you get your statement edited by someone good. Not just for grammar but also sentence structure, summarizing and presenting info in an orderly way, and getting rid of redundant words/sentences etc.

Re: University Personal Statements
