Re: ungreatful people of Pakistan
I have always been surprised that Pakistanis dig from the past pile of failed "leaders" when seeking a new one. You honestly can't find anyone better than Nawaz Sharif or Benazir? Maybe there is something that Benazir's husband didn't steal the first time that they can grab hold of this time around.
Musharraf may be "secular" but Pakistan is actually coming out of his reign in a better condition than the last two jokers. Do some of you honestly believe that the Lal Masjid group were anything other more than criminals?
It's early, so this won't be my most coherent post, but the phrase, "people deserve the leadership they receive" comes to mind.
As for the argument of Pakistan becoming "more Western, I remember middle class Pakistanis watching cable and being materialistic and brand conscious back in the 90s. Shalwar kameez still isn't as short as it was in the 70s. The problem is, as always, that Pakistanis choose to emulate the wrong values of the west. Appearances above substance in all things....
Most of the people that oppose Musharraf have no religious inclinations, they are the usual moderate Pakistanis. One of the leading critic of Musharraf Cowasjee is not even a muslim. Benazir and NS themselves were moderates and had received their fair share of opposition from religio-political parties.
We want to have democracy and rule of law and not by GHQ.
Its disgusting to see you Gora people supporting dictatorships all around the world.

Yes I will quote president musharaf on that, according to him."madirassas are great NGOs " Those students are the last remaining non materialistic entity pakistan has.(every other pakistani kid wants to be Doc. or Engg.)
We could use those students from madrissas for research in tons of other much needed fields.
We need to take advantage of that great potential rather then daemonizing them,
If a govt. is not comfortable with them, I simply shows that Gvt. is losing battle to mullahs(not students).
There is a reason people(masses) are called "sheep" in Bible.
And even more important There is reason every Prophet was a shepherd at some stage of his life.
Re: ungreatful people of Pakistan
Tariq why dont you just kiss mushys back side. Not everyone wants to. Vastmajority of the population still dont have access to safe drinking water and you want them to be grateful - for what?
Re: ungreatful people of Pakistan
people would rather find something wrong with the public than their heroes when the public turns against them. you need to ask yourself what musharraf has done to deserve this public dissatisfaction with him inspite of his achievements and relatively competant governance.
the claim that people are bored just isnt born out. if anything the consistent stranglehold of very few names in Pakistan of big chunks of the electorate shows that people in Pakistan DONT get bored quickly enough of the same faces.
people are happy when they feel Musharraf is going the same reason they were happy when Musharraf deposed NS. corrupt, unpopular, out of touch government headed by a leader wishing to establish total control over every institution.

I'm not a supporter of Musharraf and never have been. Nor do I say that Pakistanis deserve a dictatorship. Where did I imply that anywhere in my post? I am simply suggesting that in a ranking of Pakistani leaders, while he certainly hasn't been the best, he hasn't been the worst either. My point had more to do with you not bothering to look for a proper leader. Benazir has had her chance, and so have the Sharifs. Who knows, maybe they can find some corner of Pakistan that they haven't already extorted.
As I said before - a nation usually deserves the government it receives - and if people are foolish enough to elect the same jokers again, just in the name of setting aside the current joker, then I suppose they deserve the outcome.
Re: ungreatful people of Pakistan
if you had the opportunity to vote for jokers you might get somewhere. This joke came in all guns blazing - and we should somehow be grateful for his crap governance.

He is just another cretin among leaders we had or most of the underdeveloped countries of the world have. He has formed the biggest cabinet in the history of Pakistan and most of his ministers are "lotas" from BB and NS whom themselves have planty of corruption cases against them. He let loose the MQM on Karachi and on innocent protestors.
