Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

vroom you are wrong. Check statistics.

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

would it be possible that pakistani families all live together and that also can stifle the individual creatviity and ambition, by being close knit and being overprotected, by parents that pakistani kids they dont see the point of educatiion?

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

^^

This would be a good reason. When protection can be good, over protection is bad !!

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

Steady on. What would you say where my family from "backward mentality" now control some of the largest capital investment funds across Asia and Europe. One of the top 10 lawyers in the country, responsible for Saddam's electrical infrastructure. Must be very thick to do that, any money from welfare? NO

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

risc but that is not all families. There are families who were educated and all but their kids went in a downward spiral, there are families which were not educated but their children reached for excellence.

Just from cursory observations..in general...educated peoples kids did better than those of the uneducated parents.

This si supported by a study carried out by education authorities in UK, which compared student achievement in minorities to parents education level. I can not find it anymore, but it was talked about about 3-4 years ago.

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

Statistics show as I said earlier Indian kids who came from mainly doctors, engineers do better at school and working life. Less pressures, more stable family life etc.. all influences.

Just for info my granddad who originally came over to UK was a shepherd in Pakistan. No education, very poor. So you cant really draw straight conclusions, given the opportunity anyone can prosper not genetic or something.

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

I never said its genetic, it is about opportunity, and it is about a will.
so your family took the initiatiove, and had the will to try and succeed. Did all the other people who came as poor, uneducated workers do well, how about their families.

There was something about your granddad and your dad and yourself that strived to succeed. the ncouragement and support, will to succeed etc etc.

Not everyone did that and not everyone prospered like your family has remarkably done.

That is the tragedy, the opportunities were there, people just did not take advantage of them,a nd they did not instill a strive for achievment or value of education in their future generations.

Couple of good links for you guys:

As many people highlighted, education has a plays a crucial role.

On the flip side, I think that many in the community have done well. Also, its good to know that Pakistanis play a strong minority role in the UK, and the government sees folks of Pakistani heritage to be a crucial political players.

Re: Unemployment Study in the UK - Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian households

I don't think so, if you look at the bombings in UK carried out by Brits whose parents were Pakistani they were not "jobless" or "uneducated".... unless you have information that I haven't seen.
