I believe the greatest reasons why there are dissenting voices in Islam these days, some trying to secularise others trying to modernise and progress is due to a major lacking in the understanding of the precepts of Tawhid.
An example I can cite is the concept of Power in Islam. As Muslims we must believe that Allah (SWT) is All Powerful. However, those wishing to change Islam erroneously say that Islam “gives an imbalance of power to men over women”. This is a misnoma, because if we understand Islam correctly Islam actually states that no one has power except that God Wills.
Power can come in many forms. The natural trait for a woman’s power is through her faculties of influence and emotion. The men tend to use force or diplomacy. Islam indeed distinguishes between role but when people try to break those regulations they are essentially doing it on misled information about the very core aspects of Islam which is Tawhid.
Other simple misreadings:
Treatment of others unfairly - but Allah (SWT) is Creator of everything and gives to whomsoever He wishes so who are we to make distinctions.
The fact that people get arrogant over success - This is classic denial of Qadr and Power of Allah (SWT) we cannot do anything save it be from God. Any success we must acknowledge Him in it … doing this will remove the arrogance.
Backbiting - Do we not compromise the concepts of All Seeing All Hearing when these are done?
The lack in trust of Islamic values brings about a social sickness. People will fall into the mindsets that they are trying to break free of when they try to modernise the roles that Islam has placed over them which are only placed over them because those roles are in accordance to their design function.
I’m sure there are many examples … so please discuss for more examples and your views on this topic … JazakAllahuKhairun
