More than half-a-century ago, two of Pakistan’s most eminent judges drew this bleak lesson from a wave of violence that had led the country into the first of its many experiences of martial law: “As long as we rely upon the hammer when a file is needed and press Islam into service to solve situations it was never intended to solve,” wrote Justice Muhammad Munir and Justice Mohammad Rustam Kayani, “frustration and disappointment must dog our steps.”

Pakistan’s establishment didn’t listen then — and does not seem to be listening now. Ever since the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s attack on Mumbai, commentators have been struggling to explain just why Pakistan appears so reluctant to act decisively against the perpetrators. Some have focussed on the Lashkar’s patronage by the Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate; others on the Pakistani military’s hopes of weakening President Asif Ali Zardari.** All these explanations have merit but miss a critical element: the slow transformation of the Pakistani state itself into an instrument of the jihadist agenda.**

It is a widely accepted fact in India that terrorism has been a state policy of Pakistan. And now, most sensible Pakistanis also agree that their country is being gradually infected by the "Jihadists".

But there are always some who will continue to live in denial.

Terrorism is a good state policy. Israel and the US use it, so why not Pakistan?

This is not to justify the heinous outcome of terror. You must realize that every state including India employs state terror. Haven't you heard the on-camera confessions of the recently released Indian? I think he was a Punjabee.

Well that is true.

The hope is that most sensible Indians too realize that squeezing Pakistan and not accepting Pakistan as a regional power is a HUGE mistake by Indian government.

Only Jihadi-sympathizers can deny the atrocities by Jihadis.
Similarly
Only Hinduist-sympathizers can deny the atrocities by Hinduist-extremists.

Should Pakistan reply to Indian Sponsored terrorism? It will not be terrorism right?

The problem with indians is that they still think that Pakistan have no right to exist.. this is what your thoughts are and this is what majority of Indians think.

Thats just your own insecurity & inferiority complex talking. Most Indians dont really spend a lot of time thinking about Pakistan, as long as Pakistan does not interfere in India's affairs.

B ... you seem to confuse the concept of spying and terrorism. All states indulge in spying on other nations and frankly that isn't something that nations really worry about. The person you are refering to had agreed that he was "spying" for India. Even in Pakistan he was not held on charges of terrorism !!!!

As for"extremist" groups in India and Pakistan ....... tell me which "extremist" group of India has indulged in terrorism in Pakistan.

Have there been "gun totting" extremists from RSS or bajrang dal or any other groups who have been accused of attacking anyone in Pakistan !!!!!!

The great general Mankeshaw himself admitted on TV that Indian government trained and equipped 60,000 guerillas in order to terrorize Pakistanis. And it was not Mukti bahini, rather it was called "Shah beg bahini" as per the good general.

India at the behest of now-dead Soviet Union supported leftist groups in Pakistan with money and arms.

So do not forget that Indians have their hands dirty in the same mud, that you accuse Pakistan for.

Let me for the sake of discussion accept it be so ...... in Mukhti bahini or Pakistani leftist you have elements "within" Pakistan which are being supported as a foreign policy measure .... similar to supporting the Khalistan movement or the Kashmir movement on Indian side.

But what has happened in Mumbai is that a group "operating and active" in Pakistan was responsible for the attack. Plus India and Pakistan have moved on from the Bangladesh and Khalistan epsiodes and were on a path of friendship. So it does not bode well for a relationship to be development in an environment where one of the parties is still indulging in acts like this !!!!!
