Understanding MJMM

Way off?

Bhai!

This slogan has an origin. You may want to do a little research on it.
Books are written on it as well.

Again, it was started as freedom of women to choose abortion.

This slogan has many meanings.

The criticism as I said above is against it’s misinterpretation and abuse. People who criticize this slogan are not dumb. They know what could be the social problems attached to it.

I am avoiding long discussions since I think anyone can get the gist of the criticism if uses proper logic.

I think everyone is deriving the meaning of this slogan based on their own perception and interpretation. Same as what Krash said earlier.

I on the other hand may be taking things just based on its explanation given by people following that slogan. One can reject it or agree with it, again based on their own perception.

A different note but similar analogy of when you try to explain someone what Islam says or what shariah says but all they keep parroting is no no no, it actually means killing, human rights abuse and so on and so forth. There is no end to the result that we have drawn already in our minds before listening to the people advocating it.

Meaning lies in the mind of the interpreter.

First of all you seem to be either gullible or deliberately not trying to see beyond what is being told to you by so called liberal women and champions of women freedom. Not sure.

But thanks for bringing Islam/religion here.

Never my intention to bring religion in this discussion but you did.

You are comparing apple to orange.

Here we are talking about a slogan. A complete sentence.
A slogan with exact words being used.

The slogan has literal meanings. Yes. Literal, but many meanings.

My body, my choice.

Many interpretations yet none outside the boundaries of it’s literal meaning as it is very clear and evident.

For example: if someone says:

“I have a car”.

Now that can mean the person has a Toyota, a Suzuki, a Mercedes, a BMW…whatever.

Different interpretation. Yet none of these interpretations is outside the bound of the sentence above. All applicable.

Here, you are saying the " What Islam or Shariah says" to be same as this slogan. Not exactly the same.

Please do not confuse yourself or others.

Never ever Islam said killing for killing purpose, or violate human rights or anything of that sort.
Islam says saving life is same as saving all humanity. Killing innocent is same as killing all humanity.

My body my choice does mean abortion right.

Right to kill an unborn human being under development. Not acceptable human behavior.

Hope this clarified your confusion.

I have no clue how you are matching “body” with “abortion”. Its not making any sense. Unless you think that women’s bodies is only baby delivering machine? I never heard any woman referencing this slogan with abortion, so why should the opposite sex, men infer that? Yup call me gullible there, totally fine.

So if some woman says, "my body my choice. "

Should we say, shutup. Your body, my choice! ?

Defo dont want to go in circles since you have a particular interpretation in mind and it doesnt look its gona change

Damn, these people really twist themselves into pretzels when it comes to the slogan “MJMM.” Love having my point proven :biggthumb:

Nobody is matching ‘body’ with abortion.

I mentioned many meanings possible. It is unfortunately you who are going by one meaning which you are told by those who want to impose it.

People who want to impose this also want to have prostitution, sexual promiscuity, organ selling business be de-regularized, aside from abortion right.

But you were not told by them.

You started this topic without knowing it’s background and different implications. The information is available for anyone to find.
My humble suggestion is that you do a little research on this topic.

as pe rmy understanding.... its not a simply a slogan in isolation.........its a line of thought..........

those objecting to it are against because they interpret it in two ways..

  1. mera jism meri marzi--------i will use my body whatever which way i want (sexually)
  2. mera jism meri marzi---------i can/will refuse (sex) with husband

and they believe the slogan is paving way for much more .....aka freedom/unregulated sex outside marriage and normalized........so they are against it.......

thing is.......there are two parts to this jism thing.......first part is women's right over their body not to be harassed/objectivied/traded/abused..........and second part (being extension of first) is for complete sexual freedom...

the feminists are stating only the first part and saying thats what it means...........those opposing are stating only the second part for it........

i think both sides are dishonest.......feminists are defining it as only first part, because they know second part won't sit well with general public......the traditionalist opposers are focusing only on second part and using to negate the first part as well (their internal bias).

as much as i agree with this slogan and all, i think today is a real reminder of that we are actually NOT in control of anything.

So mera jism meri marzi, although i absolutely love the idea and maybe 2 weeks ago, would have been part of the March myself, right now, in the situation the world is in, God is actually telling us, "blah, you don't really have any control"

Just to clarify:

Those who oppose this sentence oppose both parts. No dishonesty there.

You interpreted first part on your behalf as one meaning only.

Yet the first part is still wrong because of it’s other meanings and extrapolation.

No one is completely the owner of one’s body. For example, self mutilating, self harming, selling body parts etc. are considered wrong.

Attempting Suicide is also considered wrong in many parts of the world.

Second part is wrong as well based on first part being wrong.

Yes. :k:

THE BEST ANIMAL TO CLAIM “MERA JISM MERI MARZI”…:biggthumb:

Yes @SID_NY Snakes a creepy animals, I once encountered a Cobra in the Wild in Bengal, it suddenly stood UP Totally Blocking my Path! So I followed what the Locals told me. Stood Completely still and Backed Away slowly! until it slithered Off into the Bushes!

Not all snakes are ‘creepy’.

The problem is that most of the time we just do not know which snake is really harmful.

Just like human. If you know what I mean.
