I guess with any relationship, you need to nurture it. You can not always succumb to the demands or wishes of one party.
Take the analogy of a plant- you need to feed/water it, give it light, warmth, attention and get rid of any infestation which could potentially damage it and in doing all this you see the plant prosper and grow.
Same could be said of a relationship, you need to dedicate yourself to it. Compromise is only on aspect of any relationship. Trust, taking time out for one another, mutual respect are all attributes which can set good solid foundations.
