Gudio, you really shouldn't have done this, that is start this topic :--) I could go on and on forever ... but no, I have exams coming up :--(
What bands do you consider underground? Do you have any particular names in mind?
Anyways. Underground bands is not the latest fad in Pakistan. Its pretty old now. They came and the went ... just like that! Early to mid nineties was a very exciting time with respect to the underground bands in Lahore and Karachi. Almost all of them were heavy metal, rock and blues bands. And there were quite a few of them. I am not sure whether you are talking about them.
The new generation of the underground bands are those who play at every new teeneage hangout, and thats only restricted to Karachi. One very talented bunch is called "Ganda Banda and the 3D cats". These guys play everything from pop to FM rock and metal. And I am sure that there some more as well, performing at the same level.
hmm...I was under the impression that the latest underground movement is more in lahore/islamabad than karachi. Karachi's a bit dead these days it seems.
I'm talking of like Noorie, Mekaal, etc.
I'm not too familiar with what is going on...that's why I want pple like YOU to pipe up and give some coverage to those bands/singers that are worthy of listening to.
scratch is right…these bands were also there in mid 80s (maybe there would have been a few before that as well)…but i remember this one which i heard in Islamabad…they sung songs of Pink Floyd and Queens…awsome performance

Its an old thing..now they have rock festivals with 7-8 bands playing on the same day.
Well there are many bands. And I have attended the latest concerts they have had. Some of the bands like SETH and Entity are really popular, real crowd pullers… but I don’t find them original. On concerts they do include some of their own songs - Each time I find them highly influenced by sepultura and the likes. Everyband should have a seperate sound atleast. Copying note by note is not a joke but atleast do something different when you’r playing your own stuff!
One more thing.. lately the in the concerts other bands have started playing not so - metal songs, which really spoils the fun.
They bring in tablaas and play guitar with it. As if Junoon was’nt enough.
Well I would love to listen to that underground stuffz. Can someone provide me at least the name and the song name they would define as "good".
Thank you.

They mostly do covers but all of them their own stuff as well which they play at the concerts.
The Trip and The Coven both have released their albums. And both were pretty okay. Especially two of Coven's songs I was really really hooked on to. Trip had a very neat album as well but too much influenced by Pink Floyd (too the brink of copying them I would say).
Gudia, Ali Noor and Meekal are no longer underground as both of them are venturing into the commercial world. Coven sold its soul badly. After leading the way as the best grunge cover band in the local scene, something like three years back, they switched to singing covers of hindi movie songs and the covers of the likes of Abrar and Jawad. This really was a huge let down for their fans.
Even if they try to release their album, it really wouldn't be a good idea as there is absolutely no market in Pakistan for their kind of music.
ASN, Circle, Cords, Saptak and Saroor are not underground. They are just unknown.
