Assalam’o’Alaikum…!!
I really had no idea as where to put this topic, either in Islamic Section, Wedding or where, so finally i end up making a thread here.
Womens are the vulnerable section of society, especially in Pakistani Interior areas. Underage marriages are common practiced for them, be it ordered by jirga as a compensation or with the mutual understandings of both parties. Many talks followed every time such news appeared on the Media and rightly so, because Jirgas have ordered murder, rape and public humiliation as ‘fitting’ punishment, number of times.
Let, for a moment, consider Jirgas decisions Unconstitutional, what i want to ask is, Whether such underage marriages are right or wrong, be it through jirga or mutual understanding. Because we know from history that Prophet Muhammad SAW him married Hazrat Ayesha RA at age of 9 (and marriage was fixed when She was 6 , i think)…so those jirga’s have a religious ground to say these marriages are legal, No?
Moreover, taking compensation marriages out, jirgas mainly involves the elite experienced elders of the region, so for the residents,their decisions worth a lot and they can decide the future of their siblings, children and grandchildren as those underage boys/girls are for themselves not in a position to decide their future at age of 6 or 9.
So, the question is, what this all hype about? - Scholars says underage marriage are allowed once girls reached their puberty…so why there are so much fuss about underage marriage…let me make it clear again…i m not talking about underage marriages as a compensation of loss by any side.
