Under weight one year old. I need help

Hello,

My daughter is 15 months old now and she is 17.6 pounds . This is very stressing to me because the doctor said she is at the bottom of percentile. What can I do to gain weight. She cannot have whole milk(cow) as she gets constipated really badly so I alternate that with a cup of yogurt and a string of cheese everyday. I give her avocado but she is not a fan.
I want some high calories healthy recipes that can help her grow. Specially the one our grandma’s used to give. I am thinking to include some ghee in her diet but I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Give her chicken, keema, lamb/goat, egg, lentils, beans, some sort of carbs like potatoes, noodles/pasta, rice, and sooji halwa. I feed my son table food (whatever we are eating), so I really don’t know any grandma’s recipes.

What do you feed her everyday, how much milk do you feed her everyday?

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Try peanut butter, high omega 3 acid fish like salmon (fish sticks), raw or naturally roasted (without oil) healthy nuts like almonds, cashews, pistachios and peanuts, olives, soymilk and tofu.

Great suggestions above, add khichri, boiled veggies, butter etc to her diet. Fish is a great idea.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Hey.
My lo is 11 months old MA and he is also close to 10th percentile.
To top things off I am in Pakistan where one doc says he is protein deficient while 3 others say he is not. One says give home pediasure 3 others say don’t. I don’t know if its just Pakistani docs that are like this (so differentiated on their opinion/diagnosis) or worldwide.
Anyways I be decided since yesterday not to fret over his weight as long as he is active.
I do give him table food with baby food here and there. Problem with me is his consumption is very small. He eats very little.
I was also wondering about ghee. I do add ghee to his food per docs advice but I don’t know if I can give him uncooked ghee. Like I add it to his food while its cooking.
One grandmas recipe is to make choori with ghee. Like u make roti and as spoon as its off the tawa add ghee/butter and break it until its all minced. Add butter or ghee during this process and add sugar or Salan to give it some taste. Personally I am not a sugar fan but see what ur baby likes.
Also I am not sure about ghee uncooked being added so just add butter to roti.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Pedisure isn’t advised before 2 yrs I think it explicitly states on the packing.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I also feed her as whatever we are eating on the table. includes from vegetables to chicken. My older one loves chicken kabab so I make them a lot and give her because she is a picky eater too. The younger daughter is more into her own style of eating, She loves white bread like naan or buns but if I put even a cream cheese on it she will not eat. She loves fruits specially water melons. I was also talking about the ghee cooked not uncooked. like if I can make sooji ka halwa in ghee or something like that.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

ghee/butter in moderation is fine. My son used to eat sooji halwa when he was 6-8 months.

Re: Under weight one year old. I need help

Both my kids are underweight. I gave ghee and pediasure (it said here in USA at least at that time that it was ok to give after age 1), both things helped and I gave uncooked ghee too. On another note, both my kids are small and petite so that’s just the way they are. Be sure to give vitamins as well after checking with the doctor.
