Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

For special events and when you are forced to wear more foundation or makeup than normal…how do you prevent your makeup from settling into the fine lines around your eyes?

I find that to be the most difficult part of the entire makeup routine.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

wouldn't primer work?

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

Translucent powder and using a velour puff to set it. You have to powder that area a lot more than the rest and brush off the excess gently. Also, thinner formulas work better under the eyes.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

I feel that the oilier it that area is, the more the makeup settles in the fine lines. Using a primer would be helpful and even though that area should be moisturized, you shouldn't overdo it. Try keeping it fairly matte and light.

I use a primer always but I haven't tried the powder with the velour puff technique. Will try that out tomorrow and let you all know.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation…the never ending battle

the key is to moisturize that area use mac fast response eye creme or olay regenerist eye lifting serum. i use mac fast response and its good

But is this a long term remedy or can I use this on someone else?

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

yes sure why not .. whenever i do my moms makeup or my sis makeup i always apply that mac creme and then concealor/foundation it sits very well into the skin

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

to set the concealer/foundation, i would use laura mercier secret brightening powder. it's very fine and a tad brightening, prevents the foundation/concealer settling into lines and believe me i have far too many under my eye

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

A good primer (with silicone) will help and stick to creamy concealers instead of cake concealers. I also find that if you use too much powder it makes even the finest lines pop. Just dust translucent powder gently with a large brush.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

great tip gina ... so girls which is the best translucent powder?

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

^Trust me, translucent powder should be used only on a velour puff. Other powders for coverage etc should be used with a brush. Mario Dedivanovic (popular for doing the Kardashian's makeup etc) as well as the late Kevyn Aucoin and many makeup artists who specialize in red carpet makeup all suggest velour puffs to seal makeup in. In fact, Mario doesn't even believe in primer and only uses powder to seal in makeup.

And in my opinion, the Laura Mercier translucent powder is wonderful because it photographs amazing and gives a soft-focus in photos and it's a great value and it'll last you forever.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

^ but i have read that it makes you white in photos !!

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

Yeh.. quite a few celebrities were caught with white patches on their faces in flash photog. I think too much was used.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

but how much is too much? sorry for asking a silly question but what is a right way to apply translucent powder?

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

After you have used concealer try using a tissue over the area to absorb all the excess oils (I usually brush over the tissue using a small brush), then use a powder puff or a sponge to powder over the area.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

It really depends on which powder you are using. Those celebrities caught with that ghost face were using the MUFE HD powder which is pure silica powder and that is known for having a flashback in photos. HD powders are only recommended for HD television and not flash photography.

Ben Nye's Banana Powder, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, Chanel Loose powder are all red carpet favorites because of how well they photograph. The way to usually apply and seal in makeup using only powder is to use a dry sponge and heavily apply powder, focusing a lot more under the eyes and concealer. This will ensure you have applied powder all over on the areas you need it. Then taking a velour puff, press the powder in (translucent is best because it's so finely milled and wont cake up) and once you have really pressed it in, lightly brush off the excess using a fluffy brush. And to slightly add back a skin-like look, spritz your face with some MAC Fix+, Urban Decay All Nighter, Avene Thermal Water or even rose water.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

I don't know if this will help, but dehydration can make the under eye are look more pronounced. Make sure you're drinking enough water. Also, applying moisturizer to damp skin will help it absorb better....set a smoother foundation for makeup.

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation…the never ending battle

what does it do? :hmmm:
thanks for a detailed reply M i’ll definately look for laura merceir

Re: Under the eye fine lines and foundation...the never ending battle

interesting topic.

i find that whenever i apply concealer or foundation around my eyes, the skin looks more dry and flaky. Any way to fix it? Same goes with my nose and chin.
