Under Rated Cricketers

Ok… before you jump to the conclusion that there is already a similar thread running… let me explain that “under-achievers” is not the same thing as “under-rated”. By saying “under-rated” players, I mean the “silent performers” of today and yesteryears. Players who quietly deliver on a regular basis, are mostly media-shy, maintain a low profile and in many cases do not have the looks/charisma to hog media headlines. Players who may not have the best technique in the game . They also do not break speed barriers but perform consistenly within their limitations.
One such player that comes to my mind is Shivnaraine Chanderpaul of West Indies. Srinath comes close too. Youhana(pak), the Flower brothers (ZIM), Atapattu(SL), Gibbs and Gary Kirsten (SA) make my list too. Talking of South African players, they have in the present and in the past quite a few players who came , performed and faded away without so much as a whimper. One such player was Fannie D’villiers(sp?). He was an excellent bowler but his name is never taken in the same breath as Donald/Akram… another was Keppler Wessels…the same could be true for Shaun Pollock…

Mohammad Sami: He has always been over shadowed because of Shoiab Akhtar.

Jason Gillespie: Brett Lee and others hog most of the attention while he does his job day in and day out.

Herschelle Gibbs: Is an excellent opener but doesn't really get the attention which he deserves.

Michael Beven: A great player, would be more famous if he was sent up the order in the Aussie batting line up.

Jason Gillepsi
Damien Martyn
Moin Khan
Wavel Hinds
Gibbs
Ajay Jadeja
Sangakara
Nick Knight
Azhar Mehmood
Craig McMillan
Vettori
& there are a lot more !!

Gibbs
Chanderpaul
Sangakkara
Youhanna
Dravid
Gillespie

vettori and cairns are over-rated not under-rated....
flower brothers r by no means under-rated....

chanderpaul definitely is under-rated....
as is trecothick....

and top of the list.... YOUNIS KHAN....
i almost feel pity for the guy....
one of the best batsmen, and most consistent in these days....
yet ppl always come out with reasons why he aint good....

:smack:
Best Batsmen  :konfused:

Younis Khan is by no means under rated. I agree infact he should be called over rated by the Pakistani supporters. The rest of the world doesn't even know Younis Khan!

There is plenty of under rated cricketers who are the real heart and soul of their team.
-Flower Bro's
-Tresco
-Polluck
-Vettori and Cairnes
-Chanderpaul and Sarwan
-Beven, Martyn and Bichel

tresco isnt under-rated...just coz he scored in the last 4-5 matches doesnt put him on top....he is definitely better than afridi in consistency, but still, he has a long way to go...

Polluck is dead....i saw him bowling yesterday...his fastest ball being 79 mph and i couldnt see anything special in his bowling...

Bevan and Bichel are definitely under-rated...

He is a lot more consistent than many other openers, not just Afridi. Why don't you guys get over Afridi and name someone else who is currently playing. Afridi is gone, and probably won't come back untill Amir Sohial is the cheif selector.

well may be comparing tresco with afridi was a bad example (he is far more better player than him)...but he still has to go a long way...

anyways, if afridi will remain out of the team while sohail is chf. selector, then i wish sohail a long term....

all the above comments on younis khan show u 'how well' he is under-rated....

add one more player to this list , Aaqib Javed.
he is very smart cricketer

Sarwan I guess also does not get the recognition he deserves...

For me

Demien Martin
bred hogg
Graham thorpe

P.S.

Kingofhearts : aap ke monh main ghee shakkar

Azhar Mehmood

i wouldn't say Azhar Mahmood is under-rated....rather he is an under-achiever...

Fanie de Villiers was quite old (due to sanctions) before he was selected for the RSA team. For some stupid reason the selectors always considered him a ODI player and only started to choose him for tests once he was old. Has more than 100 tests wickets under his belt, though. One of the best with his slow balls.

Kepler Wessels made his mark as an Australian Test Player and only performed for RSA close to retirement. I definitely would not put him in this list.

Shaun Pollock is definitely underrated (just read knightofhearts' rating of him). He is not one of the fast guns around but continue to pick up wickets the same way Walsh continued doing at the end of his career. I think we will see Pollock crack 300 wickets in England finally reach more than 400 test wickets in his career.

Kallis is underated as he is never mentioned with other great batsmen playing today. He will move on to become the highest century maker for RSA in future.

Without a doubt Saeed Anwer.
a great opener and batsman who came to play in the biggest of games.
When others crumbled under pressure Saeed excelled. Biggest examples are his famous 194 against India and again his recent century againt India in the last World Cup
