Unable to Fast - What to do

Unfortunately this Ramadan I will be unable to fast as I am in last trimester of pregnancy. I was told to give a “hadiya” instead…but was hoping someone can provide details on what should be done when an individual is unable to fast? Some say to send money to the poor? Please advise.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

I heard that u help the poor open their fast.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

 1. You can feed the poor.
 2. You can give charity (in the amount of money) in today's terms.

Or, you can make up the missed days once you have fully recovered.

The following might help:
“and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you”- al-Baqarah 2:185

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Allaah likes you to avail yourselves of His concessions as He hates you to disobey Him.” Narrated by Imam Ahmad (5839) and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel (564).
And Allah (swt) knows best.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

If you cannot fast due to temporary illness, including menses, OR journey then you will have to keep those missed fasts later on(the sooner the better). If you are having some permanent illness where keeping fast is dangerous for your health then you can give food to the poor. Anyway you are advised to consult some** Aalim** to give you proper advice. May Allah guide us to his proper Path. Aamin.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

u have to complete ur fasts (by fasting) when u are able to do so.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

Thanks for the replies. Really I have to make up the whole month of Ramadan fasts? I was always told to feed the poor, but my question how much should at least be spent to make sure it's enough? Not sure I make sense. But I have also heard that when you can't fast during pregnancy, you can send money to provide iftaari for some rozedaar for the month, not sure how true that is. Anyone with any insite, with reference perhaps? I really appreciate it.

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

^^ Provide the poor/needy with the same quality and quantity of the food you and your family take, calculate the cost of Sehar and Iftar and provide the amount to the poor. ( don't panic if the amount seems to bigger than you thought :))

This is your investment for your next life, don't think to much while donating, secondly, it would be good for you again if you fast after ramadan. Only you will be the beneficiary, don't miss the chance...

Re: Unable to Fast - What to do

I will prolly not be able to fast b/c I would just have had the baby and my tap will be open. So if I should plan to fast later, do I still need to pay the hadiya? Also, is it possible to fast while breast feeding?

It may or may not be possible to fast while breastfeeding....It depends upon your will and your situation.....If your health doesn't allow OR your milk become deficient then Allah doesn't want to put you in trouble. You can keep these missing fasts later on.........

Your other answer is "No". Once you keep the missing fasts, you need not to pay or give food to the poor.

The above mentioned Hadith shows that one should seek expert Aalim advice, rather than putting such questions here. Nobody here, is authentic Aalim.
