**A United Nations plane carrying up to 10 people has crashed in western Haiti, officials say.**The Uruguayan surveillance plane was monitoring the Dominican Republic border as part of its tasks with the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti.
Most of those on board were military officers, a police officer told AFP. Their nationalities and any casualties are not yet known.
More than 9,000 UN personnel are stationed in Haiti.
The nation has long been ravaged by violence and instability.
The police officer, Cadostin Marc-Andre, told AFP the plane had been nearing the municipality of Ganthier when it came down.
UN spokeswoman Michele Montas said rescue teams were making their way on foot to the crash area.
