But doesn’t it defeat the purpose of Hajj when people pursuing careers that go against the Quran (let’s say dancing, modelling, even selling alcohol etc) return to the same lifestyle after Hajj?

Perhaps because they deserved a chance? Surely, they must have done at least one good deed in their lives. Perhaps to test them? Allah knows best.

you answer’d yourself - Life is a continuous test and it goes on and on … until and unless you do it right and then it ends - some times people cant do it right despite making several attempts …
