The purpose of Hajj is to commemorate Allah swt and ask for His forgiveness.
But doesn’t it defeat the purpose of Hajj when people pursuing careers that go against the Quran (let’s say dancing, modelling, even selling alcohol etc) return to the same lifestyle after Hajj?
Yes they should. The problem is that for many people Hajj is not something they do out of fulfilling one of the pillars of Islam but because they see it as a status symbol. Once you have Haji with your name, all your activities become unquestionable.

I have to disagree with that. If people are doing the wrong things in terms of careers, people who would look down on their careers before they did Hajj would do the same even after.
As for the initial question, they should look for a career change even before they decide to do Hajj. From what I've heard, if Hajj is done on haram earning, the blessings for Hajj with not be earned by the person doing.
and who is going to question that questionable source ....
Bhai jis Mulk mein loGh Riba/interest k paysooN se Hajj pe chalay jahte haiN - wahan question answer kayse :D
We're not the ones to question anybody's source of income when they go for Hajj. That is already known to Allah. However, when he says it won't be accepted, he doesn't mean that they won't be given permission/visa to go for Hajj, but that they will not receive the rewards mentioned for it.

Arent we here just passing a judgement on his behalf ... :)

Perhaps because they deserved a chance? Surely, they must have done at least one good deed in their lives. Perhaps to test them? Allah knows best.
you answer'd yourself - Life is a continuous test and it goes on and on ..... until and unless you do it right and then it ends - some times people cant do it right despite making several attempts ...
Why not? I would feel bad for someone, who after spending the money, tolerating the hardships associated with Hajj and then coming back almost empty handed.
