i think the role of umraojaan is jus’ immortalized by Rekha…she lo0ked completely stunning..plus, the songs were really melodious and went so very well with the plot and setting of the movie…i am not too keen to watch the new umraojaan though…may be because i don’t really like ash that much…she lo0ks pretty in the song Salaam though..but her lipstick lo0ked too orangish in one the songs where she is wearing a white dopatta over her head…abhishek lo0ked really HOT and graceful and true nawab because of his graceful features and his bared and moustache were jus’ like icing on the cake, truly made him loo0k like a true lukhnow nawab…so, all in all, i am not really lo0kin forward to watch it but would watch if and when i get time
P.S. this CURRENT BOLLYWOOD show was on on sonytv…they were showing the promotion of the movie umraojaan and there were anu malik, jp. dutta and ash herself…ash lo0ked blah , way too much tanned ( i was like hello why on the earth an indian woud go for tan:confused: , you are not THAT white, are you?)..but what was so evident and noticeable was ash’s face expression…it was like she is really forcing herself to be there and interviewed and is truly hating it…
OMG I was crying like crazy, maybe cuz i was in that mode lol I was ballin so bad my friends were all worried the movie was really sad! Plus i didnt watch the original, so to me this was good but i think the songs and poetry was nothing closed to the original.
you guys should watch original Umrao Jaan fist then new Umrao you will find new umrao boring and waste of time I hate songs, poetry and all the s*** they were talking about I don't know what was the whole point of remake does any one of you know?
she looks so thin in this film like unhealthy but never the less i like the clothes she is waering but would go to watch the film cos i think they r both wooden actors
I was very disapointed with the acting, it really has no depth, no real emotions are arisen....but having said that, i do to love period films, and the clothes and jewellery was worth the admiration and the settings...however if you look at the old movie...its much more simpler....
I watched it last night, i really liked it, i guess i am an Aish fan so it makes me like it more =) but she is remarkably beautiful especially in the simple looks with less make up she is looking young and just so dham beautiful. I liked the story because I never watched the old one just saw the songs. I think Ash is way better looking then Rekha and if there was no old umrao jaan to compare with this movie would have done better then just rubbed off by people. I really enjoyed the acting done by Ash and Shabana Azmi they did a good job. The outfits are really nice, the black polka dot one was really cute.
I applaud the people who had the patience to sit through this four-hour movie and still found it appealing.
I can’t speak for the book or the original film with Rehka, but this story reminded me of Memoirs of a Geisha.
Ashwariya Rai was good but girlfriend cannot control her face expressions or her voice tones. It was funny how they made the other tawaiff less attractive with third-grade make-up and style. Whatever helps Ms. World! Abhisehk Bachhan played his role well but I felt he had more chemistry with Sunil Shetty’s character :CareBear: Speaking of which, Sunil Shetty was resembling a goat..no? Shabana Azmi was significant :love: Can she adopt me?
Overall, they could have cut the movie in half. The good thing is I got a free calling card with the movie.
GuCCi baba, people who are comparing this flick with the old movie are just viewers with comparission germs. It will happen to all the remakes.
But I must say one thing that this is not a REMAKE for God's sake. It is based on a novel which was the source of the OLD movie as well. Thats the only similarities.
Now if we look at the novel itself, specially the period and culture it is based on or presenting, the OLD movie very much manage to do justice. Where as this one failed to portray 1850s Lucknow, by not only attire, language, screen play or sets, but the acting too is terrible to watch. They just killed the soul of the story.

Watch our PAKISTANI DRAMA UMRAO JAAN ADA. Its brilliant. The acting our actors gave, the dialouges, outfits, dance- is all brilliant. Even the original Indian Umrao with Rekha was better. I finished this whole movie in 20 minutes.
