Aish looks good but that’s not what Umrao Jaan is about :bummer: She is SUPPOSED to be an average looking girl! I remember when watching the Pak Drama that’s one of the things they emphasize. Umrao’s voice and shayeri is what men come after and she has a hard time at the ‘prostitue house’ intitially because she is not pretty enough to attract men. Argh! I hate it when they mess with the original story this way :frowning:

when umrao was a little girl she was very average looking thats why she was turned away from a lot of 'begums' but then to everyone's surprise she grew up to be a stunning girl

hmm..I haven't read the novel but from the drama on Geo tv that came on a few years back (Where btw, Amna Bano did a SPLENDID JOB!!!) my understanding was that her real charms were her intelligence and her poetry. Because they showed Sadia Imam and a couple of other women as "prettier" vs Umrao who always had guys sleeping w/ them whereas men who came to Umrao respected her and fell in love w/ her inner beauty. Maybe I misunderstood the play :D
