So Inshallah I am going for Umrah next week. I will be flying from New York to Dubai and then Dubai to Jeddah.
I have a question regarding the Ihram… do we( me and my husband) have to be in Ihram/ Abaya in the whole flight?
or can we actually get to Makkah, get to our hotel, shower and stuff and then change into Ihram and do Umrah?
Can anyone please explain that?
It's better to change into ur Ihram in Dubai, go to Mecca and perform your Umrah. to perform another Umrah while in Mecca, you must go to Masjid 'Aisha at the outskirts of Mecca in your Irham, do your niyyah and pray 2 rakahs and then come back to the haram to perform your umrah.
You are going next week, so I suggest you completely understand the rights and rituals of Umrah and be fully prepared as soon as possible.
You should get into ihram in Dubai. Jeddah is within the ihram boundary. That how we did it for hajj a few years ago.
Exactly. My Parents went for Hajj back in 2000 via Cairo (Frakfurt-Cairo-Jeddah). Since the Egypt Air flight was a special Hajj Flight they were told at the Cairo Airport to get into Ihram as Jeddah is within the Ihram boundaries.
So better get into Ihram when u r in Dubai. As far as i know there is "Marhaba Service" in Dubai which can help u prepare for Umrah and Hajj. If u r flying with Emirates they'll surely help.
The better option is to wear your ihram from the departure of the home, some people find this difficult for whatever reason. The important thing is that one must wear the ihram outside the boundary called the "meeqat". There are masajid around the meeqat area where locals go when they wear ihram, some non-locals do the same or those travelling from Madinah do this. Again it is better to wear ihram from the home, but be careful and observe all the regulations when in ihram wherever it is worn.

from home its almost 23 hour flight journey and thats a bit too long....
I have decided to go to MAdinah first and then to Makkah so that sounds much better option.
Now the question is, what is the best way to get to Madinah from Jeddah airport?
madinah has its own airport as far as i remember !
otherwise the only option is by road. hire a taxi he'll get you over there . we always hired a taxi to makkah from jeddah but I guess we landed directly in madina there was no need to land in jeddah to reach madina.
