My brother and I will be able to perform Umrah on our way to pakistan IA (the airline is giving free tickets :)). But due to his recent chemotherapy he is unable to walk for longer thn 10 mins (he has constant numbness in this feet and hands). Because of this he doesn’t want to go at all and i cant go without him
i suggested getting a wheelchair for him but both of us are wondering how difficult will it be with a wheelchair?
anybody with any experience with this please share.
there will be no problem using a wheelchair. There are guys with wheel chairs outside the haram and you get rent them from there. They will push your brother as well for the Tawaaf and Sai.
There is a special area on the 2nd or 3rd level that is used for wheelchairs for both the Tawaaf and Sai.
A lady in our hajj group paid around 300 Riyyals for this service. I think the rates change depending the time of day and the rush.
I just got back from Umrah and I have seen a lot of people using the wheel chairs. Our hotel gives us one to use during the stay as i have a 2 year old with me.
But for the first day we forgt the wheel chair in the room and when we were going for Saee, there were a lot of people who you could rent the wheel cair from. for saee they were asking 100 Riyal...we found one who agress on 50 Riyal. There were people using them during tawaaaf as well and that was not a problem at all.
I would suggest that if you take your own wheelchair and both of you take the load of pushing it will be better than letting people push you. The reason for this is that the effort will be counted inshaAllah but more importantly those people who do this for a living are like 'crazies' and in order to maximise their earnings they speed around pushing other pilgrims out of the way. This will bear on the umrah of the person ... since a person in ihram must be considerate and soft to any living thing pushing people out of the way will just ruin the umrah of the person both in and out of the wheelchair.
If this is too difficult then do so according to the method above but make sure to tell them to slow down. Too many feet have been crushed under wheels in the haram or faces hit by flying elbows!!!
I agree with Psyah. You can hire someone to push, but they will literally run, possibly over someone's foot (happened to my sis). It's better if you push the wheelchair yourself.
I agree with Psyah. You can get wheel-chair free of cost from security person, by simply depositing your any Identity card. You’ll find them sitting outside the gate called **Bab-e-**Sa’ai .
when u enter in khana Ka’aba try to reach Hijra-e-Aswad. When Hijra-e-Aswad is infront of u try to look opoosite (backward) and u’ll find this Gate (Bab-e-Sa’ai). When you exit from inside (khana Kaaba) to outside it will be on your left hand.
U can collect your ID card after returning the wheel-chair. They also provide electric wheel-chair but i’m not sure k woh free hain ya nahi.
Hired pserson with wheel-chair for 50 riyals (US$ 2.0) maybe more amount of less amount, wil not listen to you b’coz he wants to finish sa’ai ASAP and find another customer.
Moreover try to avoid some black male and females (somalian) and while performing Tawaaf or Sa’ai do not take with u any money, camera, cell phone etc.
