Does anyone know how this novel ends?
Yes it was a sad ending. I really liked the ending. It was so touchy as Umrao gives an advice to others. I read this novel in my O Levels.
Isn't that a movie also (Umrao Jaan) with Rekha in it?

So does she die at the end? And what was the advice?
She didn't die, I think she had to go back to the dance place cos her family doesn't accept her back. I think.
Actually I just finished watching the drama and they show that she repents for her past and starts to live a decent life. I was told that in the movies, she poisons herself and dies.
So I was wondering how the novel actually ended.
She doesn't poison herself in the novel. In the end of the novel she talks about the roles of women in society --about the tawaif and the wife's separate roles.
