anyone that watched this match live and saw blatantly what the umpires were doing against pak team must know how it felt seeing our team suffer through the umpiring that didnt go our way… and we were not the ONLY ones who were upset and angry about it even the commentators were at it they noticed it too… was just simply awful stuff
yes its not an excuse to say we solely lost because of the umpiring but it DID play a major factor on the players MENTAL STATE esp younis khan, i mean how much flak can you take if you know blatantly someone is cheating in front of you and you know your innocent???
you only had to look at the reactions of the players eg. umar akmal gettting out? ajmal not getting his lbw appeal? (kicked the ground and throughout had an angry face) malik was even cursing himself, yk didnt smile once he was annoyed telling his players off too, seeing yk going upto the umpires when the ball was BLATANTLY BEING CHANGED DURING GULS OVER it DID effect the mental state of each player, if there’s a bad vibe hanging around you, you know you have to somehow keep yourself together focus and play your best how hard must that be, but it was like the whole team was affected by this vibe and instead of fighting 100% we didnt fight hard enough when we had chances
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
pakistan consistently happen to be on the wrong side of "unlucky" decisions, nothing new there. But you have to say that the way we played, we cant really blame this loss on just umpiring.
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
stop looking for an escape goat, it wasnt the umpiring or dropped catch by younis or rana's bowling; we got beat by a better team on this day. give them credit for it.
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
umpiring was factor in my opinion too.. i mean there were atleast 2 occasions where Pakistan had the newzealand players in lbws.., but umpires kept quiet.
but i think we were also like 30/40 runs behind. If only Shoaib malik and shahid afridi had scored a little over 30/40.. o well.. congrats to nz team and i hope they win this time against australia.. australia winning now is not so exciting anymore.
Hats off to pakistan for making semis tho.. good going pak team.
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
Well put it on umpiring or what ever but the fact that too many player tried to guide the ball down to thirdman area and missed around 80% of those shots (the few who coneccted guided it to keeper/slip) ..... when u've seen so much bounce then the approach should've been different and that too for bowling at the death ..... no yorkers but short of good lenght if u've the pace and Gul surely has it .... Afridi + Rana getting out straight away after hitting a boundary
There r few things to learn from the defeat and i'm sure they'll learn and hopefully com back stronger against NZ and Aussies later this year
But hey they did well i'm proud of them ..... Keep it up boys :)
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan’s defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
…but for bad umpiring India would have beaten Pak, and Pak wouldn’t even have gotten to the semis…so if at all, Pakistanis should be thankful for bad umpiring.

Agreed. The above strategy worked against India (when Yousuf hit many boundaries in that region) but failed yesterday. It was a different pitch with more bounce & seam movement and they should have been looking to play straight and milk singles and twos on the leg side
We also need to have depth in our batting in order to make use of the second batting power play. Hence dropping Razzaq was the strangest and most stupid decision by PCB (and I said it BEFORE the start of the tournament..). We wasted PP against both India and NZ. Against India it did not matter because the score was already quite good but it cost us yesterday. They should have taken batting PP when Yousuf and Akmal were at the crease
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
Bad umpiring is bad umpiring wether its in the interest of India, Pakistan or New Zealand and we should all condemn it so that in the future the errors are minimized (there will always be errors made its something human) so that the loosing side looses only because it deserves to loose the match :)
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
One or two bad decision's happen. Get over it. We lost to a better team on the day. Paksitan was around 30 runs short and than bad bowling coupled with dropped catches, well you cant defend a small total with stupidity like that.
NZ won it fair and square and not for one moment does it diminish the achievements of Pak team.
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan’s defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
^ agreed with both comments above!
jeezzzz i mean wat if we won last night? wud u guys be sittign here sayign how umpires were unfair? there r wrong decisions in every game get over it pakistan reached semi finals it pretty good dont ruin sportmenship spirit by being such sore losers
Im surprised by simon taufel.. I thought he was a decent man.. until he showed his true face today and cost us the game..
No one talks about the plumb lbw appeal of rana.. it was a plumb out hitting his above his ankle of his backpad..
Its simple.. Its more of a 11vs13 game including the umpires..
Re: Umpiring was a major factor in Pakistan's defeat in Champions Trophy 2009 semi-fi
Umpiring was of the highest standard. Yes, Umar's was a genuine mistake. Those of us who play cricket know that such an error can happen. I still blame Umar for playing the cute paddle sweep to Vettori pitching it on off-stump.
Pakistani batsmen did not rise to the occassion on that day. It's that simple. Kiwis bowled good line and length and were the deserving winners.
I will be routing for them to beat the Aussies tomorrow.
Is it the first time we have suffered at the hands of umpires or were we the first team ever?
Frankly speaking most of the umpring decisions were close and one can argue that umpires were correct to gave the benefit of doubt to the batsmen. As far as Umar Akmal's decision goes, yes it was a bad one from a well respected man who is one of the best umpires in the world. Afterall he is a human and if we think reasonable and not emotionally then we all know that even the best umpires can make such errors.
If someone was expecting that Simon Taufel after realizing his mistake would favor Pakistan and try to compensate for it by giving a Kiwi out then this is just childish mentality.
Accept the fact, we batted poorly. When you have a low score to defend the margin of error becomes too low. Pakistan was coming back in the game when Younus dropped the catch and that cost us. I guess the dropped catch is going to haunt us for many years. It was not an ordinary catch. It was the champions trophy which Younis dropped.
