Umpires charge Khalil with ball-tampering
KARACHI, Nov 18: Ball-tampering controversy involving Test paceman Mohammad Khalil broke out on the second day of Patrons Trophy grade-I match between Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Customs at the NBP Sports Complex on Saturday.
Umpires Shakil Khan and Riazuddin who were supervising the match awarded five penalty runs to Customs and changed the ball when Khalil was bowling his tenth over.
Match-referee Khalid Niazi will summon the fast bowler on Sunday morning.
The day started with ZTBL at the crease on overnight score of 216 for six before being dismissed for 253.
In reply, Customs managed to score only 97 as Khalil took four wickets for 38 runs in 11 overs while left-arm spinner Naeem Anjum claimed three without conceding a single run in 4.4 overs.
No other batsman reached the double figures except Kashif Siddiqui and Shahid Qambrani. Kashif hit 32 while Qambrani scored 20.
At the end of day’s play, ZTBL, in their second innings, scored 116 for loss of five wickets.
Afaq Raheem hit 50 while Rizwan Akber took three wickets for 44 runs for Customs.
