This guy is surely one of the best umpires in world cricket today. I can barely recall a bad decision and watching some of Venkat’s wobbles in major series I think there must be a great case for Dar to be elected to the Elite Panel assuming it hasn’t already happened. Who are the decision makers when it comes to deciding these matters?
I think ICC has set a panel who select the umpires. I agree that Aleem Dar should be selected to that panel and I think he will be in the near future.
oh yes, Aleem is a very watchful umpire, seems he drinks a lot of tea before a match to make sure he doesnt sleep during a match like Venkat, tiffin and Asoka etc etc...

Saby your list is growing day by day. Until the world cup you had only Venkat in your list, Then it wass Ashoka DeSilva and today I see a new name, Russell Tiffin. Haha. Agar Isi raftar se jaoge to shayad Koi bhi Umpire nahin bachega.
Btw - I dont suggest that they are good Umpires or deseve to be there in the Elite panel :)
Venkat it seems is sent to the middle by force. His facial expressions are saying " kis chutiaapay may khaRRa ker dia mujh ko"
Venkat makes honest mistakes but Asoka de Silva is an idiot.

honest or dishonest, an umpire should not make many mistakes. You can't be the judge of honesty here. it's the number of mistakes one makes. venkat makes as many as asoka.
Asif-- Yes , venkat and asoka were in the list since a while but durin this bangladesh series, tiffin has made continuous mistakes wchich are BASIC of umpiring , even i aint that blind and i wear heavy glasses.
@Funguy . I agree. Who cares if it is an honest mistake or not. If the umpire is consistently inconsistent then he doesn’t belong in the elite panel. Most of the dismissals are obvious and dont really require any work from the Umpire. If they can’t get the remaining dismissals right then they better be demoted to the entry level panel.

Umpire Aleem Dar is an excellent umpire…with barely any wrong decisions ( if any ) ! He also possesses good ducking skills when the ball is aimed straight at him @ 200mph(That Sachin Tendulkar-Aleem Dar incident)…lol .seriously speaking…he should be in the place of Mr.Wrong Decision (herein referred to Asoka Desilva) .However Venkat must be thoroughly reviewed by the ICC and must be given the last chance for being a good umpire over the years (I personally think he is too old to umpire any more with weak eye sight…probably…who knows?!).Aleem Dar is…mebbe…future World No. 1 umpire.
