Umpire Billy Doctrove gave two really bad decisions against Pakistan today. In the end we made it through to win the match but both decisions ironically coming against Shahid Afridi.
Jamir Darylemple was plumb LBW but he was not given out when he was only on 13. He went on to score the highest scor for the England innings of 62 runs.
Then Shahid Afridi was not out but was given out caught behind.
ICC needs to evaluate umpire performances and these kind of decisions can really change the momentum of the game and hence the series.
After every match a DVD of the umpire's decisions (both good and bad) is given to the umpires. Their decisions are considered by the ICC in evaluating their performance.
Billy Doctrove has made mistakes in favour of Pakistan too. 2nd ODI, Younis Khan was out caught behind but Billy gave it a no ball which it wasnt .
Shahid Afridi's wicket was a very close one. We have the luxury of sitting in our couches and viewing the shot from 15 different angles. Billy didnt have that luxury. And even from a few replays it did look like it kissed the bat.

It's all good.
Billy Doctrove's advocate, Umpire call no ball at the time when bowler deliver the ball, not at the time when it reaches wicket keeper, so calling no ball when Younis got caught behind wasn't a favour to Pakistan. I am sure Billy might have regreted calling it a no ball when he saw the out come of the delivering at the conclusion of the ball.
So don't count this as a favor to Pakistan. I may not question his decision of calling Jamie Dalrymple not out and Afridi out, but atleast I wouldn't call giving no ball as a favor to Pakistan. As a ICC umpire's performance evaluator, i will call all these three decisions in discussion as incompetent decisions, and will add them to Billy list of incompetencies and will remove him from the list of Elite Umpire at the conclusion of his term of one year.
Bhaijaan. I didnt say he did pakistan a favour by no balling that ball. I said he made a mistake of calling that a no ball. That mistake went in pakistan's favour. Mistakes go either side's favour. And his mistakes have gone either side.
He just doesn't inspire confidence. And thats my bigger problem with him.
As far as Billy not being biased is concerned, anybody remember the last and the series deciding test in the windies in '2000 and Courtney Walsh surviving numerous lbw appeals with Billy at the helm....
And in the same series of 2000 in West Indies he gave Jimmy Adams not out caught behind on Wasim Akram's bowling. Jimmy Adams went on to score a century and WI won that match by 1 wicket.

And what comes of this DVD...does it serve any purpose other then going into umpire's personal collection so that he could get off it periodically....how many umpires have been demoted or reprimanded as a result of this DVD cutting exercise....
I was thinking exactly that while reading the previous posts :). How can we forget Walsh not being given out bat-pad on Saqi's bowling by this legendary umpire. I hate him eversince!
Hair ka hair cut hona chaheyay....
Allah's staff strikes without a sound...somethings gonna give here pretty soon, the ground cannot sustain so much negative pressure against someone so innocent as the likes of INZI...I mean the guy is completely a bholu badshah....he might get hit by them this time, but Allah will surely avenge his cause...
