Just saw the news on GEO. According to Wasim Bari, Umer Gul is not fit. Umer Gul on the other side is claiming that he is fit for selection now.
If its true that there is a bright chance of akhtar’s return.

Makes you wonder if Bari knows ANYTHING on what he's talking about... the guy seems so clueless half the time, and the remaining half, whatever he says is contradicted by someone or the other.

PESHAWAR: Fast bowler Pakistan cricket team Umer Gul Wednesday said he was completely well and quite healthy of his backache problem and now ready for the fitness test for West Indian tour.
Talking to Geo TV here, he said he had been unable to represent Pakistan for last one year but strived hard to regain fitness and now he felt completely fit for the West Indian tour.
Commenting on statement of Chief Selector Wasim Bari that Umer would take some time for regaining fitness, Umer Gul told that Chief Selector was a very experienced man and if he thinks so it would be right but if the selection committee trust him he would try to perform his best.
Looks like Bari has a serious problem when it comes to coordination between his brain and mouth

his fitness is irrelavent really. The true issue here is if he is match fit. I've heard he is not from the people who watched him bowl in the 20/20 match. He needs to play a few domestic matches - bowl more than 4 overs to be ready to play an international level test match

What does Bari drink/smoke? Umar Gul is playing 20/20, it means he has a chance of being match-fit and must be given a chance to prove it.

I also read some where that he contineously bowled 10 or more overs in last few days in front of the SA fitness coach…and he here is what i he had to say
“I’ve recovered completely from my back problem,” Gul told The News, a Pakistan based daily, “and I’ve informed the PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq that I’m ready to take any fitness test to be considered for the coming tour.”
Gul insisted he was match fit and had already played in a couple of practice games in which he bowled 10 overs and more. He added, “Even the South African trainer Grant Compton has, in his medical and fitness report, given me permission to start bowling again.”
Gul elaborated more by saying that Compton had put him through a two-month rehabilitation programme before he began bowling again. “I’m facing no back problems like in the past and I’m 100% fit,” he said. “I’m ready to take any fitness test to satisfy the selectors. As it is I’ll not make myself available if I was not sure about my fitness and there were chances of me breaking down again.”

Shoiab is a world class bowler with the skills, experience and stats to back it up. Even if he plays in 4 over bursts he can do significant damage. I dont know if I would say the same about Umar Gul

one off instance in the last couple of years - I was happy that he performed, but I’d have been happier if either i) this was a continuation in a string of recent performances (which it wasn’t) or ii) he had persisted, and performed afterwards as well (which didn’t happen either).

I can't believe it. Umer is cleared for WI and so is Shabbir as per The news newspaper.
And I thought his career is on stake due to the back injury and its missdiagnosis.

Yeha, I can’t believe GreenAadmi hasn’t posted to this thread yet! Maybe the mental yard at Mayo Hospital is full and GreenAadmi is looking for a replacement venue.
