do you guys have one? do you use it for every day or for travelling or both? we’ll be in europe for a while in may iA and i’m debating whether we should check in our regular stroller for use on vacation and carry the baby through the airports, or if we should invest in a travel stroller and leave the regular stroller at home. of course, there’s no guarantee the travel stroller will be allowed on board, so there is that… hrm. my main concern is what will we do at the airports we pass through? he’s mA a big kid and carrying him is out of the question. hubby could wear him in our carrier but i honestly don’t know how that’ll work because, again, he’s basically off the charts for height and weight both mA and we’re weaklings.
what travel strollers do you guys own, if any, and what did they cost? the one i like is $300. ack!
Usually they will check your stroller when you check your luggage, but they will allow you to take it with you until you reach the doors of the plane, and then they will take it from you (the people who handle luggage will be waiting there to take it). Then when you come out after you flight, it will either be given back to you at the door of the plane (you will have to line up and wait for it) or it will come out on the carousel. Thats how I have seen it on most of the flights I have been on in the last year.
Baby products will make us hip mommies go broke I swear :(
we have taken both of our's maclaren and icoo on board with us, personally I found it was total hassel since the girls didn't want to be in strollers and it was much faster for us to carry them and be on our way to the baggage claim
I would suggest you look into the maclaren....it's much lighter and takes very little space
sgc.. depending on teh airline, they do provide your strollers at the airport.. Emirates gave us one at the Dubai airport.. it was Maclaren and came in very handy!
we took the car seat with us and had it checked in at the gate.. we wrapped it in a bubble wrap to avoid it being damaged since most of the time they just throw the stroller/car seat down the chute and it's better to wrap it in a cover with some padding to avoid damage.. I will be too afraid to have a $500 stroller damage which airlines take no responsbility for!
see if you can find the cover that can be used to put your stroller in at the gate check in!
air france doesn't provide strollers unless you've checked in at your gate. not sure what the point of that is since we need it to travel between terminals at CDG. we are planning to bubble wrap our regular stroller if we take it with us. it doesn't have a bag, unfortunately. i think its mostly the umbrella strollers that come with carry bags.
I would say take umbrella stroller.......they are easier to haul and take less space. on my trip to Europe i bought this umbrella stroller at zellers which was supposed to be a dupe for maclaren for $ 50 on sale. It had a full recline, 5 point harness and a large storage basket but was really small and lightweight when folded. Since we travelled mostly on public transit rather than a rental car, smaller stroller was a blessing.
Gemini did u bubble wrap it on spot? I am travelling again this time with a new born and i have bought quinny zapp as umbrella stroller since its the only small stroller that accepts carseat. the stroller itself comes with a cover but not the carseat.

do you remember the brand of your lightweight stroller?
the bubble wrap dude is available near where you check in. the downside is that you won't be able to use the stroller after that, of course, so you'll have to wear the baby for the walk through security and to the gate.
Reidi.. yes we did while waiting at the gate for boarding the airplane.. just make sure you have the baggage tag visible otherwise they will make you remove the bubble wrap.. fortunately my husband had that hanging outside so they took it without a problem! Our car seat was dirty where there was no bubble wrap on the top of handle! I cant even imagine how it would have been if we didnt bubble wrap it!
On our way back, we had it in one of our suitacases with padding around it and checked in with the baggage. It worked just fine!

oh really.. we didnt see any bubble wrap people at JFK.. we saw the ones who just plastic wrap your bags and my husband thought that was no good since it didnt provide any cushioning.. we bought the bubble wrap from walmart and took it with us.. I wish I had taken the picture of it but I was too busy with the baby to do so!!!
Anyone who made rules regarding airports and planes and strollers DID NOT have kids of his own...!!
SGC,I bought a very basic and infact cheap umbrella stroller for traveling and have only used it for that purpose.Mostly you do not get it back during stop overs and have to carry around the child or use the ones the airport provides (if it does.Dubai airport had lots of Maclarens, courtesy Emirates).
I would suggest that if you have to buy one,get a not so pricier one or fancier one,if you think you will be using it for traveling only.

oh sorry, i meant the plastic wrap guy, not the bubble wrap one!
It was an avalon galvestone stroller ....retailed for $100....i got it for $50 on sale. It had a good height as my husband who is 6 feet 2 could push it with out looking like the guy from hunched back of notredamn. Unfortunately this one is discontinued, they have other models by avalon available.
you can go with a guzzie and guss which is almost like quinny zapp retails for $150 at tj kids (online) but has a full recline. the issue with zapp is that it doesn't have a recline feature and zapp extra is $300, if you already have the big stroller spending $300 doesn't make any sense

Can an infant carseat fit in a suitcase.
Since i am moving permanently, i have loads of baby and kiddie stuff with me. and checking in the stroller and car seat at the gate would save me alot of baggage space. so you bubbled wrap around the seat and not the handle?
i have bought quinny zapp as umbrella stroller since its the only small stroller that accepts carseat. the stroller itself comes with a cover but not the carseat.
reidi, fyi, i was looking into the zapp and came across their faq.
Can the Quinny Zapp be taken along as hand luggage on a plane? Most airline companies accept the Quinny Zapp as hand luggage. However, the majority of airlines have a weight restriction of 5 kg, as well as restrictions on the dimensions. At 7.8 kg, Quinny Zapp is heavier than this allowance. We recommend that you find out in advance from the airline company and/or at the check-in desk.
we did this only because we had room to do so.. on our way over, we checked it in at the gate and bubble wrapped it leaving the luggage tag out and partially the handle.. rest was all bubble wrapped!!
Ok I've just returned from a trip ... just today and our baby is heavy.. close to 30 lbs. We've just bought Maclaren Quest which is a little pricey so I knew I wasn't going to take it with us. With them throwing strollers and baggage on top of it, there was no way I was going to take that stroller with us. We do have a cheaper stroller that we didn't take with us either because my husband said he was okay with carrying him around. Carrying a baby could be hard, but I can't imagine carrying a stroller.. and definitely not pricey Maclaren on trips. If you absolutely have to buy one, get a cheap one for trips because strollers get damaged, something or the other will go wrong when the cargo guys throw em around. They take the stroller right before you get on the plane and when you leave the plane you can get it back.
