my due date is 9 april so i m 38 weeks preg
but yesterday,s ultrasound is giving the EDD 5may so i m 34 weeks preg according to this and also previous ultrasounds
i m confused what is my right due date one which doc given or ultrasound?
Re: ultrasound confusion
I am not sure but I guess usually its the ultrasound.. didnt you have any ultrasound before this? I had one at 7 weeks to determine the estimated delivery date (edd). you can also calculate your due date if you had regular cycles and know the date of your last period. check out babycenter.com
Re: ultrasound confusion
How is the dr not following what the ultrasound is saying and giving u one date???!!!!!!!
Usually drs do an exam and say u are this far along...its followed by an ultrasound and thats the real date which then the dr corrects on their papers.
Highly confusing. I would follow what the ultrasound is saying.
Re: ultrasound confusion
yep you can be off by couple of days but 4 weeks.. eeek that is scary!!
and also in the third trimester they do the palpation of the abdomen and measure the uterus to make sure baby is growing as he/she should be.. how come the doc didnt notice that?
Re: ultrasound confusion
the ultrasound is more accurate than a doctor, and in this case, especially. maybe you should switch doctors? a month is a LONG way to be off an EDD!
Re: ultrasound confusion
according to my LMP my due date is 9 april
altrasound that done in 10 and 17 weeks shows EDD 20 april then 26th week altrasound shows EDD 7 APRIL
second last shows 25 april
very confusing
Re: ultrasound confusion
Yeah, that's really weird. My OB took the date of my LMP and she did a transvaginal ultrasound when i was around 9 weeks, to give me an EDD. I agree with others, if you're being given a month off your due date, that's scary. See another doctor maybe.
Re: ultrasound confusion
From what I have understood, if you have regular menstrual cycles and you know the date of your LMP, then this is what is used to calculate your EDD. Ultrasound scans can also be used, but become less accurate after the 1st trimester, so maybe less reliable to use from the later scans. It seems odd that there is such a variation in them though. Speak to your midwife/ obs & gynae consultant, they should provide you with a explanation.
Re: ultrasound confusion
^ but you can't ever know the exact date of conception though- its not always day 14 of your cycle, you know? they say LMP because it is the easiest date to pinpoint to calculate EDD but if you ovulated later or earlier in your cycle that month then your actual date of conception can be off which would make your EDD calculated by LMP off, too.
Re: ultrasound confusion
^ i'd go with he ultrasound but check with yuor doctor.... with munchkin, I thought I was 12 weeks, but when I went for my first ultrasound, I was only 9 weeks...
Im surprised they havent picked this up earlier..
Re: ultrasound confusion
I'd suggest you seek second opinion.
Re: ultrasound confusion
The inconsistency is pretty bizarre.
Re: ultrasound confusion
I completely understand what you are saying somegroovychick, but the dates seem way too far apart to account it for that.
I always thought that if your cycles are regular then LMP is a really good method, as the last 14days remain constant (after ovulation) regardless of the length of the first phase, which you would know the length of if you cycle is constant. Please do correct me if I am wrong :)
Re: ultrasound confusion
^ no, you're right! apologies.
Re: ultrasound confusion
my cycles were regular befor we ent for Umrah
the medicine i used for delying my periods made my cycles irregular
i have periods after 2 months 4th july and concieve the same month
so my LMP is 4 july
may this affect it:hypo:
Re: ultrasound confusion
arr you in pakistan by any chance....sorry to generalise....but when i was in pakistan recently i came back to uk 3 months before due date.....anyhow the doctor there told me i was due in december, 4 weeks off, when in actual fact i was due january....i even told her that wasnt correct, i already knew before going to her that i was due in jan, but she wrote and told me end dec.....anyway after telling her she was wrong etc, the ultrasound told me i was due in jan...so she was wrong..always beleive the ultrasound.
Re: ultrasound confusion
If your cycles are irregular, your LMP is irrelevant for calculating due date. If you were being monitored by a doctor and you knew when you ovulated and conceived, then you can use 38 weeks from that to calculate your due date. If you don't know the exact date of ovulation/conception, then only ultrasound is relevant.
Why your doctors don't know that, I don't know.
Re: ultrasound confusion
determining EDD using ultrasound can vary according to when US was done.
most accurate EDD is via US in the first trimester when the fetus is small and CRL (crown to rump length) is used. This date is generally accurate to within 3 days of actual delivery date.
As your fetus grows ... its no longer "straight" within your uterus ... the curvature throws off the CRL measurement ... sooo ... In 2nd trimester BPD (biparietal diamter) size of babys head is used. This is accurate to within 10-14 days of actual delivery date.
IN the third trimester this accuracy decreases even more and its not uncommon for the date to be off by as much as 3 wks.
OP ... go by the US date determined in 1st trimester.
Re: ultrasound confusion
^ This is what I was told by my OB as well, first trimester US is most accurate.
ultrasound confusion
Mine had a week's difference but 4weeks is too much:s
