I am looking at getting wedding insurance. I want a very reliable company and was wondering if anyone has any experience in this (hopefully not first-hand experience but you may heard of something!).
I spoke to John Lewis but they only cover you for the civil ceremony and reception. I explained to them that at Muslim weddings our main events are our religious wedding and Walima and we may also have a pre-wedding event (i.e. mehndi) and civil ceremony. For this they said I need to take out 3 policies which costs £460!!
The only one I can find specifically tailored to Asian weddings is by Voyager insurance but I know nothing about them. The other alternative is to take out 2 policies with Debenhams.
does it cover mehr in case of a divorce? does it cover if the events either do NOT take place or food gets spoiled or if someone gets sick? does it cover honeymoon travel package if its not taken for some reason?
...what's next? insurance for having a baby?...couple to be paid a certain lump-sum amount for pain N suffering in case the wife can not conceive? :D
Wedding insurance covers you for the out of pocket costs like deposits to vendors, hotels, caterers etc just in case the wedding is called off, canceled or postponed

I hadthe same issue john lewis debenhams said two policies.. In the end i went without it i got so caught up with things.! Also dont forget you would need reciepts for every purchase etc! So make sure whichever company vendor you are using are known and reliable
yes, I think if insurance is required then you should deal with reputable companies that would give you invoices or receipts. The cost of insurance is so high £460, I am surprised. I know that some venues, photographers, videographers, etc. would give you alternate dates etc. in case the wedding is postponed. I am in Manchester/Lahore and we will have 2 functions, one in Lahore and the other one in Manchester. In Lahore the venue is PC, I am getting makeup done by Ather&Shahzad, photography by Studio AFZAL…I had to do a lot of research for Lahore as I do not live there that much, being from Manchester it was easy to pickup what I wanted… in the UK at Nawaab in Manchester (on stockport road in Levenshulme) they also do catering across UK and makeup, photography and videography by Uzma’s (office across from Nawaab and they also do photography/videography all across UK and also does photoshoots for couples in her studio. Her makeup style is soft and very similar to Pakistani artists). Fortunately all of these are professional businesses and give invoices. Another reason for using a professional organization is (especially in the case of makeup artists, photographers etc.) that they will turn-up. I have heard horror stories of some “professionals” not showing up as they got a better booking that would be a nightmare! and especially on the day.
Anyway, going back to insurance, if the caterers, venue/hotels, makeup artists, photographers, videographers, florists, event deco, DJ…(and I am sure other people I have missed!) can give you alternate dates, it might be okay not to get insurance.
