The United Kingdom will withdraw its troops from the Sangin district in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, where they have suffered heavy casualties in recent months.
The British troops will move to other parts of Helmand, according to Liam Fox, the British defence secretary, who announced the move on Wednesday. They will be replaced with some of the 20,000 US troops already stationed in the province.
Good news for the Afghans. This is and other recent news including McChrystal’s resignation is a sign that the new operation al-Fatah launched by mujahideen is working.
Although UK has smaller resources the UK soldiers are the better trained and disciplined and have a reputation as efficient soldiers. The Americans can deploy three times as many troops and still not get the same result.
Sangin is one of the most dangerous areas in Helmand province cant wait for the USA to hit the dust there when its so called world class army faces the insurgents.
Mind you i doubt it's the Taliban who are the ones winning either i believe it's the common Afghan who's fed up and fighting back.
ditto, i remember a speech by Bush where he said there’s only 2000 Taliban, we’ll destroy them within a week’s time. 9 long years and look where they are. I feel sorry for the delusioned Muslims especially, they do not know what standing up for HAQ is, though they talk a lot about it…
this recent update from IEA (Taliban) is relvant to your post Faris bhai:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
America and its allies have bogged in Afghanistan. Neither the war machinery nor their advanced technology can save them from the lethal end. Similarly, the so-called claims of peace and fake Jirgas are also not going to work. The efforts to remove the names from the United Nation’s blacklist are not creating soft corner in the hearts of Afghan Emirate’s leadership for the Americans.
Likewise, the change of faces in the American Military Command will not create a ray of hope for the Americans. In short the invading United States of America will suffer the most catastrophic military setback in its history.
The surprise attacks on Nangarhar Airport and huge military base in Kandahar by the Mujahideen in which dozens of invading soldiers and the puppet elements were killed besides destroying American helicopters and spy planes prove that the new appointments by Obama are insignificant. Despite the appointments of new faces, the sensitive bases and military barracks have become easy targets for the Mujahideen. The surrender of important American military bases has become no different from the retaking of common check posts by Mujahideen without any resistance by the enemies.
President Obama and his military advisers should realize the fact that they cannot stay in Afghanistan anymore. The morale of their soldiers is on the lowest; their generals are revealing the facts in order to avoid embarrassment in the future. They are declaring the Afghan war as illegitimate and a disappointment. Some of the generals have resigned while others are making excuses for going out of the war. The American political administration has nothing to say except that War should be ended at the earliest.
If the war prolonged, no one will be able to save the United States from disintegration. Billions of dollars of expenses and millions dollars of current approvals can also not warranty the American invaders to escape from the historical defeat. No one can guarantee the survival of America unless and until the American rulers take the rational decision of ending the war, getting out of Afghanistan, shut their bases and respect the sovereignty, independence and Islamic outlook of Afghanistan. There are no chances of their success. This is why the analysts agreed that Afghan war resembles the Vietnam War. They say that the United States is facing the same situation of Vietnam War where the Majority American masses had opposed the war and took to the streets.
Today not only the American masses but the people from all around the world are staging protests against the American War in Afghanistan. The Afghan Masses are fighting along with the Mujahideen with the same spirit of Vietnamese masses who had fought alongside their freedom fighters against The US.
According to a recent survey, 85 percent of the Afghan masses support their Mujahideen brothers. The American invading soldiers had to undergo mental healing due to attacks on them during the protracted Vietnam War. Similarly, the depressed American military officers and soldiers are becoming mental patients in Afghanistan due to attacks by Mujahideen. The US had to bear economic loss during the Vietnam War, whereas their economic backbone has broken due to the Afghan war.
Now it is up to the American rulers to analyze the situation in the light of these facts. It is rational to do something earlier than what has to be inevitably done later with contriteness and regret. The work is to get out of Afghanistan and respect the national independence of Afghan masses.
^ Personally i am not a Taliban fan becuase my people suffered under them... historically we were among the finest warriors of Afghanistan but the Taliban wahabies from Kandahar were nothing more than Iranian and American stooges.
They only did part of the fighting against the soviets one among many jihadist armies including the Northern Alliance and independant states.
However for all thier wrongs i prefer the Taliban over the Americans solely becuase no matter how evil they are they are our problem and Kandahar is in Afghanistan, at least it was when i last checked.
The Taliban are extremist thugs but they are our thugs and belong here as much as any other Afghan kaum.
But the Americans dont belong here. There is no proof that the Afghans invaded America or attacked it at any time be it 9/11 or since.
If the Americans hate the terrorist so much why not invade Saudi Arabia where most of the wahabi terrorists came from?
The Afghan war is the biggest injustice and harks back to imperialist times.
America must learn the hard way becuase the Taliban is not thier problem now... they have made enemies with the Afghan nation... as a whole.
A nation that has never been beaten will trounce them without any help ecept from Allah and his beloved.
^ I disagree, there was no 'taliban' during the soviet war afaik* they formed during civil war.. maybe you have more knowledge about this. and from the ulema I follow who have met Mullah Umar and others among the leadership, they are far from the hardcore salafi al qaida mentality folks. They lean more towards the traditional Islam. Though there might be some signs of salafi mentality in their activities without a doubt.
Nope the Taliban as we know them definately rose to power in 1994. But the Taliban themselves and thier salafist mentality is much older and pre-dates even the soviet war.
The Taliban are directly linked to Dar Uloom Deoband, who are traitors from the British era created to spread dis-unity among Muslims to prevent another 1857.
I am amazed how they rose to power and totally hate thier ideology and the destruction of many Masjids and Shrines as well as massacres of Ahl e Bayt are great crimes.
I would rather skewer a person like that just as quickly as i would an American soldier.
Fact is the Taliban were scumbags... But i also accept that they fought well and at least these days they have stood.
The suggestion they follow traditional islam is frankly ridiculous... becuase Dar Uloom Deoband claims to propagate traditional Islam but rejects the status of Prophets and saints.
However if the Taliban have changed their ways then i'm sure they will be welcome, afterall no one can deny they are our brethren and should be guided to the correct path... i would rather see them do that than kill them.
At least thats what i know... maybe we need to have a discussion on the Taliban themselves becuase doubtless theres a lot of stories about them some true some false.
If they are truly what they say they are and it's proven that they were not behind the attrocities they are said to commit and which i have seen first hand then perhaps we can come to terms with them.... i hate the way people demonise them.
