some friends and I are planning a tentative week-long trip to the UK in the summer. and I’ve been charged with the planning (which means that I can cram in all the things that interest me… screw them). the primary thing I’m interested in is history, historic buildings (castles, forts, etc), museums, etc. I’m more than happy to stay out of the cities if possible though I think I have to go to Bradford to pay my respects and see what the fuss is about.
so, if you’ve got any links, ideas, suggestions regarding must-do things, please be kind enough to share them here. thanks.
Will you have a car? Cos ye cannit really do it by train.
You want to drive up the coast from the North East starting at Whitley Bay all the way to Scotland, loads of lush sights along the way. Holy Island and what not.

Oxford is lovely and historic.
York Minster is nice too.
Museums...best ones are in London.
Carlisle Castle is good!
My fave is Beeston Castle in Cheshire. It gives you an amazing view of the Chesire plains and on a clear sunny day across ito Wales, to the Peak Dsitrict and the Merseyside Coast as it is on a hill.
