UK Spouse Visa

How many of you applied for a Spouse Immigration Visa to UK from Pakistan? How long did the procedure take?

My husband received his British Citizenship earlier this year. Will that help?

Re: UK Spouse Visa

In the current circumstances, if documentation is done properly it takes between three to six weeks to get UK spouse visa. You must pass IELTS (band 5 minimum requirement) or ESOL corresponding exam, its now legal requirement for spousal visas to UK.

Good luck.

Re: UK Spouse Visa

I'd PM you tonight daffy.

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Any information on Spouse visa? - are they pretty strict?

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Isn't ESOL or English test only required when applying for British Nationality ?

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Enigmatic, would you mind PMing me the same info? :)

Thank you

Re: UK Spouse Visa

^ And me!! My cousin is getting married next month and she is doing all sort of things to save money (So no solicitor fee :D)

Re: UK Spouse Visa

I got an 87% in English in my 'O' levels, do i need to give IELTS as well?

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Guys IELTS was introduced from September 2010. Every person who gets married to British citizen (or UK ILR holder) & applies for UK visa to visit UK as spouse must pass English langauge Test (IELTS / ESOL). The exceptions are

  1. Partners of Tier 1 / HSMP Holders
  2. Partner of UK Work (permits based) visa holders.
  3. UK/USA/Canadian/Australian (or any native English speaking country’s) degree holders (no A Levels or college education).

You can read this.

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Could you pm me too.. I am just about to send docs to hubby for him to apply..

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Nope.. You need it for spousal visas too aminas

Re: UK Spouse Visa

  1. IELTS is required for all spouse visas despite doing English as a subject in O or A Levels.

  2. Guys I would want to PM you all too but I don’t know the status of your or your spouse visas. So if you could tell me that then I could help you with the documents required etc. The stuff that at least I know :hehe:

Re: UK Spouse Visa

^ The girl in question is british :)

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Seriously IELTS is required anyway? I read on the Border Agency website that if you have a degree that was taught in English just attach the original certificate and that would be suffice!

Re: UK Spouse Visa

No, its only accepted if degree is issued by a country with English as first language (aka UK/USA/Canada/ etc etc). If degree is taught in English but issued in a country other than native English language (aka Pakistan) it must be certified by NARIC.

You should check the second Link I posted above in my previous post.

Re: UK Spouse Visa

In that same link, it states:
An applicant can meet the requirement in one of the following ways:
1.by passing an acceptable test at a minimum level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) with an approved provider, or
2.by being a national of a majority English speaking country, or
3. by having an academic qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in the UK which was taught in English.

Re: UK Spouse Visa

Yes, but that degree must be certified by NARIC (please search for word NARIC in same link I provided you above, you will find it).

Details are here:
http://www.naric.org.uk/index.asp?page=210

If the degree is not certified by NARIC, it will not be accepted.
