I had heard of honour killings (thankfully none of the people I know believe in this ‘jihalat’) but to see Pak immigrants actually doing this here in the UK is beyond words

I believe shamraz created a thread in Pakistan affairs for this. Anyway, you can say that they left the kind but the pind didn't leave them. The ghettoization that happens in the UK does't help matters either.

its the type of low class ghatiya people who destroyed the image of pakistani expats in the middle east, and the type of people who have been the cause of everything that is wrong in Pakistan today, whether it is ethnic or sectarian killings, generational revenge, acid attacks, parading women naked in public as revenge for some supposed dishonor, village idiots aka pangahayat sanctioned rapes as some sort of justice...you name it. When that type of scumbag leaves pakistan, the scumbag has an opportunity to open his little ghatiya mind and eyes, but sadly in some cases chooses not to.

This story is awful.. Course the parents are innocent till proven guilty but there were some very strange things going on..
Even if the parents didn't do it why would they keep her in Pakistan after she swallowed bleach and return to the UK without her?? I can't imagine how any caring parent could do that.. plus not reporting her missing (her teacher raised the alarm)..
I've heard a lot of Muslims doubting the younger daughter, saying how come she only said about her parents after being arrested for the robbery at their home.. Actually she told some friends at school her parents did it and again the teachers become involved but back then when she was questioned she denied it.. Not so strange when u think how young and scared she could have been..

They were living in la la land if they think that their daughter wasnt gonna follow western norms if she grew up IN THE WEST. If you dont want ur children to grow up westernised, dont move to the west. Simple. Its hard enough that those of us who grew up in the west have to conform to dual cultures.

awful story. How could they murder their own daughter so cruelly and in front of their other children. If proven guilty, hope they rot in jail for the rest of their lives.

This is simply the risk we run living in Western society. Didn't her parents see this coming?
My experience is that most children if left to themselves to learn and grow, will ultimately return to the values instilled in them by their parents.

Anyone missed the point that these honour killings happen in ALL societies, except when it involves hindus, sikhs, christians or atheists etc... its not branded in such ways!
Ever heard of the non muslim guy wh killed his wife/gf/mistress for affairs/cheating/because she dumped him and he didnt want her to have a life with another man so the guy slashes her face/ rips her eyes out as happened in the UK recently, threw acid on the woman (Katie Piper) and so on...
What about instances when I have heard my white female friends who are non muslims say their dad or brother would beat them up or kill them or disown them for getting with a muslim man? Believe me it does happen too yet its not widely reported.
Yes there is a problem but its not just Pakistanis, other muslims and non muslims from other countries do exactly the same and their men also sleep with girls of all races yet we are always hearing about Pakistanis or poor white girls when white men abuse asian girls abroad for sex holidays etc.
I hope the parents if found guilty get a very harsh sentence and the sister finds some peace.

I always found that pakistanis living abroad were the ones with the backwards mentality. The ones living in pakistan were more forward thinking. Because when those folks left pakistan - they left with an image of what pakistan was back then. What they were ignorant to was the fact that pakistan continued to move forward when they left and eventually move past them. They think that when they left pakistan just stopped progressing. That 1950s pakistan image will always be ingrained in thier minds as a result.

Its a common and sad culture for a fraction of desis living in western world. They will live in uk but will expect their children to be fully compliant to eastern values. How unreal can you get.
They need the harshest punishment possible.

Tbh, setting aside whether or not her parents did it I don't think it would be that unusual for any 'normal' person to become unstable if their sibling ran away from home, was murdered, had drunk bleach to try and kill themselves, was pressured to marry someone they didn't want..

People living outside of Pakistan are more insecure, being in a foreign land and all. So tend to often hold on to their culture and traditions more firmly then their counter parts in pak itself. Its a natural tendacy of all people. Becoming so insular and conservative is a defense mechanism against the vagaries of an alien society.
In this case, the daughter became what the parents had dreaded most.

The story just gets weirder and weirder..
Now it’s come out that another sister, Mevish (the one who is supporting her parents), was also acused of stealing money from her parents’ home, told a friend and wrote a letter saying that her parents killed Shafilea but has now changed her mind and said what she wrote was just ‘fiction’.. This sister also left home after falling out with her parents but later returned and is now accused of trying to intimidate that friend into retracting her testimony..

It is odd that the parents chose to live in an area which has a very small number of non-whites living there as compared to other areas of the north-west and then worry the daughter is becoming westernised.
The reality is that 99% of Pakistani parents will try some sort of physical, emotional, psychological abuse on ther daughters if they felt them becoming westernised and hanging around with boys.
If your daughter wants to reject a moderate desi/islamic style upbringing in favour of a much freer western upbringing what is the furthest parents should go to nip the westernisation process in the blood?
I doubt any one here supports honour killings yet if we had a daughter who wanted to have a freer lifestyle would we allow it or would we try nip it in the bud and that is often done through emotional, psychological and quite often physical threats and abuse?
