UK- National Insurance - forgot number- what to do for pension benefits

Hi all brit gupsters

Trying to help my dad. He can not locate his NI number, has not worked in UK since the 70s and the company he worked for is no longer in business. Not sure if they closed doors or were acquired by someone else. Dad thinks he may have it somewhere in his records at his place in Pakistan but maybe not since a lot of his stuff got destroyed/stolen when his offices in Karachi were ransacked.

Is there a way for him to find his NI number? He had talked to someone at some gov offices there but since he had no NI number they said they can’t do jack essentially and can issue him a new NI number, which means zero benefits or minimal benefits. He worked in UK from late 50s onwards so is entitled to bigger pension benefits and I don’t want him to lose it. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I have been searching online, and will be following stuff I find such as following up with DWP etc.

Let me know if you have any pointers.
