UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

Just a few weeks left for the UK local elections..why is this significant? Well for three reasons..

  1. If the ruling Labour party suffers a disastrous defeat.. it is doubtful if Tony Blair can hold on and he may resign sooner rather than later.

  2. The racist, Anti-Muslim British National Party may poll a significant number of votes this time around ..especially by exploiting the 7-7 bombings in London and the whole cartoon controversy.

  3. It’s a test case for the new leaders of the Conservative party and liberal democrats.

Whatever happens it should be interesting to watch..I hope you all contribute to this thread with the latest news and happenings..

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

Unfortunately i think the BNP will get quite a few seats...lets just wait and see...

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

I read a column in LA Times yesterday. An except:

One survey shows that a large percentage of Brits are worried that "Britain is losing its own culture." A poll published last weekfound that one in five voters would consider casting ballots for the nativist, extreme-right British Nationalist Party, mostly out of concern over the nation's growing racial diversity.

Just hope that BNP doesnt come into power or yo arse will be grassed :D

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

By the time BNP come into power half the country will be non white and then the BNP wont be able to do anything about it.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

The BNP regardless of the problems still only represents a small minority of British people..unlike France and other countries the mainstream parties reject the BNP. unfortunately they will do well..what with the right wing looking for an antidote to cameron and the general worsening of the mood post Denmark cartoons they may well score a breakthrough in the South of the country.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

The growing concern in the country regarding immigration coupled with disillusionment with Blair will mean that BNP stands to gain in the coming elections. In the midlands Dudley and Tipton are areas where BNP are hoping to gain seats. 3 of the Guantanamo bay prisoners came from Tipton.

It is however amazing to see that a small minority of Indian immigrants supporting BNP simply because of their hatred of Muslims. That is really sad as BNP is a racist party and are against all non white immigrants. Their current rhetoric against Muslims is to take advantage of anti Islam feelings in west . What this tiny minority doesn't realise is that once they have done with the Muslims they will train their guns on them. Talk about being naive.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

it's fooking British local elections for crying out loud ... why is this a sticky?

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

^ because it will determine who will be licking Bush’s arse for the next term :omg:

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

^ After Blair it will be a hard act to follow, no one can come close to this guy when it comes to sucking up to Bush.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

You think Churchill was licking FDR's @rse? Or was it the other way around?

When you say countries suck up, they instead set up alliances for mutual interests.

Remember if FDR and USA hadn't joined up, bunch of NRP (non-Resident Pakistanis) won't be sucking up in Luton. They would be picking up rags in Mirpur instead. So be thankful to UK-US alliance and thank Allah that bunch of Arab-Lackyes form Pak ended up making a living in the UK.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

^ I hadn’t realised Blair is the name of a country. How noble of FDR and Churchill to have had the alliance otherwise the whole NPR community would have been posting on GS praising America hoping to get a green card one day.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

Labour routed. Lose over 250 seats. :k:

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

News says BNP making gains... The gains by any hardline parties in any coutnry in Europe is something of importance for whole world........

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

BNP has made gains in London and I think some success in B'ham, stoke on Trent
very minor in the broad context but whats significant is the poor showing by the lib dems and the resurgence of the tories..

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

What is the vote percentage, since many a times in democracy an incoming tide in coming years in hidden in vote precentage in each county...

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

The vote to BNP is more of a protest vote from disillusioned Labour supporters. The green party has also won 14 seats and the anti war respect party has also bagged a few.

Re: UK local elections & The End of Tony Blair?

does anyone know what happened to Yvonne ridley? She was standing on a respect ticket
