UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

In the US, both are called cribs…there is not the differentiation. The ones that later can be turned into a toddler bed or used as a headboard/footboard for a full sizes mattress are called 4-in-1 convertible cribs.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

bisoux, when I had my first son, my naniyal bought us all the big ticket items as this is the tradition in my family. They got us the convertible crib plus a bassinet, since I did not have room in my bedroom for the crib. The bassinet was great, he used it for like 2 months, and it kept him right by my side without being actually in bed with us. Which was handy because I was exclusively breastfeeding. After he outgrew it he ended up co sleeping in our bed because like I said I was breastfeeding and there was no way I was going to get up and walk down the hall across the house to get to his room in the middle of the night lol. His crib did not get any use at all except to hold toys and laundry :cb:

2 years later I had my twins who were born 7 weeks premature. They had extended stays in the NICU so were still pretty tiny when they got home.

We bought the Graco Pack n Play and it was the best money we ever spent. Both babies lived/ slept in together for the first 5-6 months of their lives. I breastfed my twins until they were 6 months old so again, it kept them right by my side. It was light enough to where I could pick it up and move it myself from my bedroom to the living room when needed and kept my toddler away from the babies.

The crib we converted to the headboard for my eldest when he started KG at age 4 and finally stopped sleeping with us. After graduating from the pack n play, my twins went straight to a bed in there own room that had guardrails secured all around it

IMO, a pack n play is pretty useful.

Brit, this is the article from the Telegraph. I was trying to locate it couldnt earlier then a GP friend sent this to me .. This issue was discussed among a group of friends ( all doctors ) just recently .. That is why I mentioned the thing happening in the UK hospitals.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

agree!!

Ok this is what I am planning to buy!! Watch at 02:05, couldn’t find a better picture so posting here video as reference..

for mobility purposes, I plan to buy this:

The bouncer can help me take my shonu anywhere…even when visiting friends and family too

P.S. The items I mentioned is not exactly what I am gonna buy. Just giving u all an idea.

Bouncers are not meant for mobility lol. You don’t take it out with you with you to people’s houses. Do you know how heavy/cumbersome it is to navigate a baby in a car seat/carrier with a diaper bag etc? And then to add a bouncer to the mix? If you’re out somewhere, baby will stay in the carrier/car seat and honestly that’s how they are the most comfortable. Keep a play mat or thicker blanket in your diaper bag so that you can spread that on the floor when you want to take baby out of the carrier.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

agreed with khatti .. The bouncer is good for when the baby is tired of laying and at daytime when you want the baby involved in other activities .. I did get the bouncer initially but then a few friends experienced that their kids that didnt use the bouncer started moving about quicker .. so I sort of listened to them and returned the bouncer back to the shop .. and son has been pretty active without it .. when i needed it , I would prop him up in his car seat , and later we bought a baby swing , so those two served fine ..

its hard work to take a bouncer along for visit to friends .. eventually you just decide to carry the baby only ! lol .. I think all parents go through the same process !

Only for long day outs to people places , I carried the car seat in .. generally I would carry the baby and lay him a cushion or a sofa all wrapped up nicely !

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I need to pat MY back now. I’m glad i started this thread and getting help from all you experienced Moms… thanks again all

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Queen, that side cot crib is exactly what i have for my son .. I bought a cot bed and have removed the panel all together .. its protected on three sides and its right next to my bed , makes it easier for me to get to him at night .. but he still rolls over and comes to me at night time , i am getting addicted to the way he hugs me tight and falls asleep ..

I had this one

It goes from birth to 40lbs, and convert from bouncy seat to a rocking chair for toddlers..I didn’t get much use out of it as a bouncy seat but it my boys really liked it as a rocking chair..it was good for them from age 1-3’ish

I also used it during feed times occasionally although honestly the car seat/carrier is the best thing when feeding/starting solids. It keeps baby at the perfect angle

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

omg…how cute… really? how much it costed you?

Well, I really have strong cuddling habits when sleeping. I need pillows and erm…yeah pillows  to cuddle, if I dont, I cant sleep. That’s what worrying me…mera baby na pichak jaaye bas… that’s another reason why I want a separate space for him

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Is it really strong enough to hold a 3 year old??

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Yes, it is. That’s why it says up to 40 lbs and why I’m recommending it if you really want a bouncy chair. The others are too flimsy while this is not.

i received one as a gift for my eldest and it lasted me all the way through to my twins who used it as well

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

:hmmm: thanks for sharing. I will certainly keep it in mind while choosing one :@:

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Lol kattichic you are making me rethink of the usefulness of a crib now. I guess in the long run it was useful since you converted it into a bed for your toddler.
So confusing! It’s like a hit or miss. Either one thing can be useful for you or the other.
Decisions decisions. Cribs and crib bedding is very expensive so if I can find cheap useful alternatives I’m happy lol, but pack n play is not cheap either. Hmm

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Sooner or later, you have to spend. Its your choice, sooner OR later!!
If you buy a pack n play… you will have to spend on a crib later as your child grows… I think I’d buy things, that can benefit me in a longer run!! I am not gonna spend on big items every other year!!

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I think I’m going to get a crib queen, but eventually I’ll need a play pen for when the baby is older and I want her to be in the living room downstairs with me.
I guess we will find out what we end up using more once the baby comes iA.
Oh and ladies did you avoid the traditional bumpers for the crib? I’m looking into getting the breathable ones.

My personal advice to you would be to start out with a pack n play…you can get a pretty good one at Walmart for $89, that has the bassinet and changing table..I just bought one today for a friend’s baby shower gift. As baby grows, if you are not co sleeping, then buy a crib. The pack n play will still be very useful for when you need to keep baby occupied/out of the way..like
When you’re cleaning or showering. You don’t have to spend a fortune on the crib either, again, walmart.com is your best friend lol! And here’s a little hint: it is SUPER easy to sell baby stuff on Craigslist!!! I just sold our crib (that we converted to the headboard and footboard)and my sons baby armoire about two months ago since we were moving to a new house and getting him new furniture. It was 10 yrs old, but in perfect mint condition since he barely used it…I had the crib mattress too! I got a pretty good price for the set too

So if you do buy a crib or pack n oaky or anything that you find you didn’t really get use out of, Craigslist it!!!

I’m a big proponent of buy as you go, when you need something instead of spending upfront for something you might not even need

Thanks raania n i completely agree with khatti on this point. I just bought pack n play and its just about the preference. Ive a small room, i cannot setup a baby nursery separately.i myself love baby cribs, cots etc but i have to consider the space availability and the flexibility that comes with pack n play. I wont mind spending money later on crib beds etc but i can use pack n play for more thn 2 years and the fact that i can take it to my moms place whenever i go there.Buy something durable and worth spending money if u intend to use it for longer period of time. I did a lot of research n went with pack n play option. U guys living abroad have advantage of good deals etc. here in pak it isnt. I bought baby trend one. I liked it very much n if i were in US i would have bought it more happily lol considering the reasonable price.
