UK ladies, help in shopping!!

UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Very helpful thread.. Awesome share CB.
Ok i would like to know what is more useful? Pack n play, baby cribs etc considering i would be bfing n i want my kid in my room as we dont have separate one for baby.i read some mixed reviews abt these different options, there are so many but i want something which i dnt regret buying later.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I actually disagree with CB’s theory about why the hospital do or don’t reveal genders. Decades ago it was down to the sonographers discretion as to whether they’d reveal the gender but it started getting quite prejudiced with ladies of asian ethnicity not being told whereas westerners would be told (and it’s not just desis who have a preference for boys) People started to complain etc etc and now the NHS don’t have any rules about not revealing the gender, if you want to know you can find out, providing the sonographer can do so. You don’t have to justify why you want to know, it’s your baby. Anyway, I’m guessing this was at your 20 week scan and if you weren’t able to find out then unless you go for a private scan you’ll have to wait until baby arrives unfortunately.

The surprise is nice though

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

^ the surprise is amazing  we didn’t find out on purpose and it was such an emotional moment then. Plus I loved the anticipation even if shopping wasn’t gender specific. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter at all if your baby girl is wearing blue or your boy comes home in yellow, or if the nursery isn’t perfectly set up and color coordinated.

You get two scans in Canada- one at 7 weeks and one at 20 weeks. You only get more if you are high risk and who wants that added worry, even if it means one or two more scans?

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

It was a 20 week scan, although I was 18 week at that time. So yeah, it was the last one and no, I don’t plan for any private scans. We were quite interested to know the gender due to the shopping and baby name… and yeah…out of some excitement too

Its just not about the clothes! It could have helped me in deciding the color scheming of my baby’s main bedding set and other some other stuff. You know I am too much in love with a Pink color bedding set including all the drapes and other stuff. I was just confused about deciding which color to buy. Ok tell me one thing, even if its gonna be a baby boy, would pink look odd? As I want Pink color as a main theme when welcoming my baby. Don’t know why, baby pink is so soft and cute color

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Queen I’m sorry you had such a mean ultrasound tech!! They usually look for it right at the beginning when the baby is in a good position and might tell you later on. You should have sat there and said I want to know the gender. They try to use tricks to move the baby.

I had my scan today and found out I’m having a girl. Very excited alhumdulalilah :). I went in and told the lady I wanted to know the gender, but the whole time I kept thinking she might ignore me. She kept telling me that here is the foot, fist, spine and I just sat there nodding because I had a mouth full of saliva that I needed to spit out badly :hehe:. She must have thought I am so weird. Anyways she kept laughing because my baby kept wanting to hide in the corner of my belly so she made me cough to try and move her around. I told her that I feel like we might not find out the gender at this rate, but then she told me it’s a girl. Then the MFM dr came and she was so nice. She asked me if I know the gender.
I just didnt get any pictures because I completely forgot :smack:. I think I was too excited lol.
We have more growth scans in the US. I think one at 24, 28, 32. Or it could just be for me, but I know others who have had more scans and were not high risk.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Im due end march/beginning april inshAllah and its still chilly in Canada during that time (if it isnt snowing off and on!) Would be buying the caps but what is your take on socks and mittens? Ive been reading up on the internet and mostly people say that with body suits that cover the feet as well, one doesnt really need socks, specially till the baby doesnt start sitting up or crawling…personally, id rather buy them to be on the safe side but it’ll be helpful to hear from you guys. Also, what is an appropriate time to take the baby out of the house? My parents and inlaws would all be around inshAllah so its not that I’ll absolutely have to go somewhere or wont have a place to leave the baby if i have to get groceries or anything urgently..but usually kab bahar lejaate hain? 4wks? 6?

and SGC, it’ll be helpful if you could shed some light on canadian boxing day sales! Havent been to one yet but im thinking iss baar himmat kar li jaey hehehe  Or maybe just drive down to the states?

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I think i missed the point about toys .. I didnt have to buy toys coz friends gifted us the basic ones .. the ones you get from ASDA and teeny weeny noisy little things nothing too complicated .. I introduced noisy toys from two weeks on , but realized he wouldnt budge.. simply no interest from him .. then at a month and a half he started kicking his legs at the sight of the toys ! actually just one toy that I had named Happy ! it was a little noisy thing , more like a teether !

I think you should wait for any toys coz kids have their own personality and you can buy them toys based on that.

you can go out with the baby as soon as you feel healthy and recovered . Mine was a bit complicated recovery plus I was on my own so it took me about three months but i did go to the doctors and minor shopping from two weeks after birth , as soon as you can stand up really. If its really really cold outside , for the protection of the baby against the weather you might wanna wait until a few more weeks , but if you are confident the baby will remain warm and safe , then feel free to take him out as and when you like .. when they are born they are pretty delicate , but they toughen up a bit around 6 weeks of age..

I got hats and mittens and socks and guess what , every sleep suit had a set of mittens attached to it ! and at home he never needed mittens .. someone gifted us a new baby clothing set and it had mittens in it too ! honestly you wont need them coz if you will be swaddling the baby, his hands will be nicely tucked in ! if you want mitts to protect his nails scratching his face , then you can buy a pair ..

socks not needed until summers ! or until baby turns 6 months .. which ever comes first ! coz all sleeps suits have feet .. no socks needed
I had a snuggle socks pair for 3-6 months size .. it was gifted by someone , I used to got those on son’s feet on top of the sleep suit , while going out , just to secure him coz he hated swaddling !

hats are an absolute must .. you need them to keen them warm even in the house ! so yeah get a pair of those .. the size changes quickly , a pair should do at any given time ..

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Hi ladies, I recieved a few PM’s and I wanna share something with you all.

I am sharing all the info based on my experience, you guys might have your own different budgets , please feel free to do what you think is best for you and your baby.

Someone asked about Moses basket, I didnt get it. I bought everything considering maximum value in least amount of money spent. Moses basket , to me , is a luxury. I felt it was good to go only for a couple weeks after birth, hence I dropped the idea of buying it and bought a cot bed instead !

The difference between the cotbed and a cot and a travel cot is as following:

A Cot: is smaller in size and has fixed four panels on all sides . The child usually outgrows it once they are 3 years of age since they would want to get in and out of bed on their own .

A Cot bed : is bigger and wider in size , has head and foot panel fixed , eventually you are able to remove both of the left and right side panels to convert it into a child bed. also if you leave one panel it can be used as a childrens sofa seating . Its awesome and grows with the child.

A travel cot: you can fold it , its light weight etc etc .. upto you if you want something which is not permanent kind of thing. This has a limited use and doesnt grow with the child , but if you have space issues in the room then by all means go for this option.

Some one asked about cot mobile : its a toy thing that rotates along with music , hung over the cot for the babies . I bought one , kid didnt feel interested at all , gave it away to a friend ! to me it was a waste , but if you think you child might like it , by all means introduce them to it , its a good thing .

Baby Shoes, you wont need them until they turn 6 months plus !

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

So how many pairs of shoes shall I buy to my baby initially?? Here shoes doesn’t mean the exact shoes, I hope you know the socks cum shoes…

I am NOT talking about buying this:

I am talking about buying these!!

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I had a cot with my first and pack n play with a bassinet for my second. Hands down I recommend the pack n play especially if you want to travel too. The pack n play collapses to the size of a stroller. I use the bassinet to keep baby stuff of immediate need. I can PM you a picture if you want.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

^ why PM? If you can post it here, pleeeeeeease :@:

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Please post them here!

Im looking into different cot options too. Honestly, I think a cot bed is the best option as whenever we do have another baby inshAllah, we would be needing a seperate sleeping arrangement for that one anyway so doosra lena he pareyga either cot or cotbed or bassinet. Im thinking we will initially keep the cotbed in our room and then later on (maybe a year) will move it to the nursery…

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I was talking about this one Kids II, Inc - Sunnyside Safari

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

so you entirely didn’t buy a cot bed but this??
This seems small to me. I might be more interested to buy a Cot or Cot bed. Thanks anyways

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Thank you! Answered all my queries…will be bugging you with some more as the time passes

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

This one is really practical to keep in ones own room, and then take it downstairs etc if and when need be. But when does a kid turn 30lbs? A year? And then afterwards one would need to get a proper bed and fold this one for the second baby i guess

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

ladies, this travel bed that Raania suggested can be classed as luxury. Because eventually your child will outgrow it and you will need another bed or cotbed to put them in. My friend had bought this coz she didnt have a room big enough for a cotbed or a cot. As her child is growing , he wants to jump wild in the cot , but she feels its not strong enough to hold his weight while jumping about .. eventually as soon as her son turned 14 months , she sold the travel bed and bought a cot bed instead ! One more thing that you need to keep in mind, my friends son was a bit naughty, he ended up cutting and damaging the mesh in a few places by tugging at it and sticking his toys in it ..

so if your budget allows you , by all means buy this travel bed. but if you are looking for a one time and long term investment , then cotbed is your only option.

I have a cotbed , I plan that son will sleep in it for a good two years , then i will turn it into a child bed for a few years and once he grows out of it, I will convert it into a sofa seating , by putting some decorative cushions on it .. :)))

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

I might get this for my baby so she can sleep with me in bed since its just going to be me on the bed. I don’t think I can leave a newborn in a crib plus having to get up during the night and walking over to the crib is too much.

I’m guessing cot beds are cribs.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!

Bisoux, crib is a cot . A Cot is different from a Cot bed . Key different is the side panels.

In a Cot, Most of the time there are fixed four panels . but in a few of them , one side panel is flexible and it can be slided downward for easy picking up or laying the baby.

In a Cot bed , two side panels are not only flexible but they can be completely removed as well to convert it into a child bed .
