Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
My sister buys causal wear from Matalan, Mother care and Next. If it is party dress, wedding dress like fancy stuff then she goes to Debenhams. Primark doesn’t sell quality stuff as CB mentioned earlier.
I will suggest you to visit Next on Boxing day, i see families with kids queue up mostly for Next because they have good stuff for kids. Most of the ladies forget their own shopping but they carry stuff for their kids, lol.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Yeah CB, I am in the UK and my baby is due in December.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Yes i know boxing day helps a lot in saving money
this will be the first time i will go for shopping in boxing day…my friends urged me to join them last year too…i just didnt feel like waking up early ![]()
The thought of crowd though makes me feel uncomfortable… i will have to have four hands to grab zabardast items ![]()
Congrats dear ![]()
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Don’t buy a tub yet. Super hard to bathe and control a slippery baby. Best is to bathe in sink while baby is safely cuccooned in this mothercare foam thingie. I have been using it since birth TILL NOW, and baby is now EIGHT months old.

Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
CB i had this seat and then i found this foam. I know the baby slips a bit in the seat and it is SO messy to deal with water all over, A sink is SO much better, the high sides save the baby, you have running warm water or you pour water of the right temperature over the baby and baby is softly laying on this foam totally enveloped in the body shape. You can put foam higher along side of sink or recline it totally, your choice. Seat didn’t give so many options.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
wait, so when you make him bath in this, doesn’t it get wet?? Its a foam, right?? Also, ye chubhta nahin??
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
NO it is a foam it is meant to get wet. Then you wring it out once you are done with bath and baby is asleep. Sometimes I even wring it out at night. And it is so so soft, does not pinch baby at all. Don’t you know what foam is? Go check it out. it is far better and cheaper and SAFER than all other options ESPECIALLY for a newborn in my opinion and experience. I tried bathtub, seat AND this and I stuck to this. Sink is anywhere and this is easy to use. It is just basic padding in the sink, bus. As simple as that
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
I know what the foam is. Sometimes little daanay (texture of foam) in the foam makes you chubhan
thats what I was talking about. Also, if you fit it in the sink then what about the tap?? does it not come in way??
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
It is to protect the mattress, so when the diaper leaks, your mattress is safe. My son’s diaper has leaked several times, his mattress is spotless. We just have to wash the sheet and the pad.
all purpose changing pads…when one gets dirty while changing, it goes into washer and you can use another one. I also used it for massaging him, and when he used to sleep in our bed, it would go under him to protect our mattress. I used them religiously till almost 7/8 months.
I used the foam Demi has mentioned but only till he was 4/5 months. Around 5 months in his bathtub that went in the big tub, around 9/10 months, just in the regular tub as he was able to stand with support. I had the seat too, I bought it kind of late, I wish I had bought it for him as a newborn. It is very safe and easy to use.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Oh and did I mention that in first few months, they literally poop like 8 times a day… oh and if you have a boy then be prepared for more fun during diaper change. ![]()
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
I got it. Yes I will surely buy a couple of mattress pad. Thanks for suggesting ![]()
About foam, yes the only thing that kept me from buying it is it wont be in a longer use. Maximum 3 to 4 months maybe…I have heard, babies grow faster ![]()
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Lol really? Well I couldn’t know the gender. That stupid woman kept on teaching the trainee and ignored me at all
everytime I asked her about the gender (due to baby’s position I wanted her to look for it at earliest) she kept on telling me later… and in last when she looked for it…vaby had crossed the legs… I knew it was gonna happen because my baby was moving a lot… and then she said… oh… cant really tell now. Dil na jalao yaar aur baat karo ![]()
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Last time, me and my sister woke up at 5 and left home straight away lol. You have to get up early if you want to get quality stuff, if you go late then you will end up at third class stuff. All the good items gets taken quickly. And no one cares for others that time, everyone becomes selfish for their own shopping. You will be lucky if other people pick for you.
My sister got this bath tub for her baby. My niece will turn one year in two weeks time, all this time she has been taking bath in the tub.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Primark is not that bad. Not everybody can afford casuals even from Next or Mothercare.
You can get nice pajama sets, socks etc from Primark for small boys and for yourself as well. The jeans I have bought from primark were the best ones I ever had and now the maternity jeans I m wearing is so comfortable and soft.

Unfortunately I have had bad experiences with Primark too. In a couple of washes, the item isn’t good enough to be worn outside. I don’t say I dont shop from there, but I buy only things that I need to wear in home or sleeping time.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
I don’t know if you guys have Carter’s in UK. I love their baby stuff, the fabric is extremely soft, the clothes are durable, and cute. We have a Carter’s shop 3 miles from where I live, they always have huge sales. I also love their receiving blankets/sheets, I have like 8 of those, we have been using them since my son was born.
Oh and when you go clothes shopping buy clothes 0-3, 3-6… Don’t buy the newborn stuff, babies outgrow them literally in 2 weeks.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Thanks for such a tip!! so you actually mean that the size for a newborn is different from 0-3??
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Yes, there clothes that would be labeled newborn for size, skip them, just go for 0-3 or 3 month size.
Re: UK ladies, help in shopping!!
Deme, I intentionally didnt buy this foam.
First because I dont like bathing my baby in the sink for hygiene reasons .
Second, because the sink itself is really really cold in winters and the water that gets trapped in the foam is capable of giving baby a cold rush.
Third, because you have to lay the baby in this foam and I wasnt comfortable laying the baby while bathing him , for fear that water or soap might get into his mouth or nose .
Fourth , when you are bathing the baby under the tap water temperature changes become difficult to control. therefore I had bought a £2 pot from the poundland , would fill it with water with the right temperature for the baby and then put him on his chair and bathe him … since he was little I have been washing him under the tap at nappy changes .. and you know a good few times I escaped burning my poor little son … so i dont risk it anymore now .. I just fill a large jug of warm water and wash him with that.
and last but not the least, the chair is very light weight, foldable, dries pretty quickly and my son used to enjoy his bath time seated in there . I never came across a situation where he slipped out of it. only after he started kicking and becoming naughty , I used to make him sit on it like he’s sitting on a sofa ! he loved it .. with the foam thing, the baby will outgrow it pretty soon ..
and one more thing to add , my boy was extremely naughty since day one and would literally bang his head against any hard surface so i thought it wise to keep him away from the sink . in the seat it was all cloth so it didnt hurt him no matter how hard he banged his head lol
