Brit, this is the article from the Telegraph. I was trying to locate it couldnt earlier then a GP friend sent this to me .. This issue was discussed among a group of friends ( all doctors ) just recently .. That is why I mentioned the thing happening in the UK hospitals.

I actually disagree with CB’s theory about why the hospital do or don’t reveal genders. Decades ago it was down to the sonographers discretion as to whether they’d reveal the gender but it started getting quite prejudiced with ladies of asian ethnicity not being told whereas westerners would be told (and it’s not just desis who have a preference for boys) People started to complain etc etc and now the NHS don’t have any rules about not revealing the gender, if you want to know you can find out, providing the sonographer can do so. You don’t have to justify why you want to know, it’s your baby. Anyway, I’m guessing this was at your 20 week scan and if you weren’t able to find out then unless you go for a private scan you’ll have to wait until baby arrives unfortunately.
The surprise is nice though
