UK Guppies

What’s the cheapest price you guys come up with for a complete in car satnav system? I’m forever getting lost, and ending up on the other side of Walsall when I wanan pop down the local corner shop ( :o ), so I thought I’d invest in one of these.

The best deal I can find is 400 squid for a Tomtom Go - does that sound reasonable (everyone keeps taking the piss at home - my car itself only cost me like 800 quid :stuck_out_tongue: )

I’d prefer not to use a system that requires a PDA, and Tomtom Go seems to be the only real alternative. Any tips?

SS

Its something I considered when I was getting lost in unfamiliar cities a few years ago!

A friend of mine just bought one from Makros for £200 plus VAT (if you know someone in business they could buy it and claim the vat back I think).

Ive not heard of a cheaper one and this one doesnt have any monthly fees.

Not sure of make/model etc.

Hope this helps

Re: UK Guppies

yes tomtomGo is around that price and is a good nav system.
… i have Navman icn630. an absolutely briilaint system. the newer one have capabilities to search addresses by postcode. if thats the kindathing u want then look in detial.

how abou Garmin Quest or Mio 268 both under 350 quid.

Looks ok, but i dont like the map graphics on Garmin.

Re: UK Guppies

I use a Garmin iQue, which is a PDA with built in GPS system. But it's more than £400.

Re: UK Guppies

ok, just got a pretty good deal. Picked up a Tomtom Mobile for #125 from Ebay and hooked it up to my Nokia 7610, runs liek magic.

Just took it for a test drive - nearly ran into a car because I was too busy looking at all the pretty colours in the map and missed a give way, but its all good. Definitely a better option then Tomtom Go if money is a bit tight.

It's so cute, it even has little dots where there are speed bumps. Looks like I'm gonna be playing with my new toy all night :rotato;

Re: UK Guppies

:rotato: ? what sites have you been visiting?

Re: UK Guppies

Mine is useless sometimes, it keeps sending me down one way streets the wrong way.

Re: UK Guppies

Sobi, Dont buy TomTom Go

Get one of the PDA’s with integrated GPS or something. Why dont you wanna get one of those?

Khair, you want a stand alone kit:

Re: UK Guppies

It's ok Gizzy, I got Tomtom Mobile (only #150) instead, and hooked it up to my mobile phone. Works a treat.

Brit, lol, I nearly did that this morning! Mine also managed to get me onto a motorway - didn't know I was actually joining a motorway until I was on the slip road. Now that was scary (never driven motorway before).

Re: UK Guppies

^-- lol you have motorway fobia :-p

Re: UK Guppies

Give me a break, I only passed recently! Have yet to master roundabouts, so lets not even talk about motorways!
