This must a devestating blow to those people who belived that the west would come demand the former judges be restored. In fact they seem to be supporting Musharraf’s viewpoint on them.
United Kingdom didn’t press for judges’ restoration, says Brinkley
British High Commissioner Robert Brinkley on Thursday said that Britain had chosen not to press Pakistan for restoring deposed judges, as it believed this wouldn’t happen. “Clock cannot be turned back; we have to move forward,” said Brinkley while responding to a query by a member of the youth parliament during the gathering’s 2nd day session. An NGO, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT), organised the session. Brinkley also referred to President Musharraf’s statement that interference by top judiciary in the government matters was the main reason behind imposition of emergency rule in Pakistan. Brinkley said that Pakistan’s case was different from that of Zimbabwe as for imposition of emergency rule. “Election date has been announced, Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) will be lifted on December 16, almost all detainees have been released and restrictions on media channels almost gone.** In short, things are improving here in Pakistan since the imposition of emergency rule,” he said.**
Brinkley said that his country wanted a stable, prosperous Pakistan where a sovereign civilian government works together with military and that is at peace with its neighbours. He said that only democracy could ensure a stable Pakistan. He said that every country had its own internal political arrangements but under the universal standards and principle, people must be ruled by the people of their own choice. He said that democracy was more than an election. “Democracy is strong institutions, a judiciary free from influence or manipulation and a free media, both scrutinising the actions of politicians,” he said. The British High Commissioner said that Britain had never used the term ‘war on terror’ and believed that military action was not the only solution to terrorism. He called for joint efforts to fight terrorism.
He said that terror acts by only a handful of people had been tarnishing the country’s image, and such elements didn’t speak for entire Muslim community, which is peaceful. He said that with the emergence of South Asia as a major economic player, a lasting peace between Pakistan and India could benefit both the countries and entire world as well. Brinkley said that Pakistan-Britain trade was on the increase and it broke through the one billion pound mark for the first time last year. He said that sharp increase in the UK foreign direct investments in Pakistan over the last few years showed a real long-term commitment to Pakistan by UK firms.
Re: UK Ambassador - didn’t press for judges’ restoration - 'clock cannot be turned ba
Musharafs days are numbered... The West obviously doesnt care about the people of Pakistan, nor does the Pakistani dictator. So they have something in common.

Us becharey ko tu aap key dictator ney baghair kisi charge ke andar kar diya tha…
So tell me, why isnt a criminal like Altaf Hussain apprehended? Why doesnt the Govt of Pakistan do what Imran tried to do, and you/reza were gloating as to how much influence Uncle Mush has over ‘bartaania’, so why not use this influence and get a criminal back?
Re: UK Ambassador - didn’t press for judges’ restoration - 'clock cannot be turned ba
Obviously, govnt does not want Altaf arrested. He is not a threat to Pakistan.
No, its because he is part of this corrupt regime and in bed with them. Whether he is a threat or not, leave it upto the courts to decide, he has alot of charges against him, and no one is above the law.
