BEIJING, Dec. 21 – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and visiting Burundian Vice President Silvator Ntacobamaze have held talks to discuss the democratic process in the central African country.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and visiting Burundian Vice President Silvator Ntacobamaze have held talks to discuss the democratic process in the central African country.

The Burundian vice president, who was on a one-day visit to Uganda, briefed Museveni on matters concerning the transition government in Burundi and the steps that have so far been taken to implement the Arusha Peace Agreement. 

Museveni, who is also the regional chairman of the Burundi peace initiative, pointed out that the agreement guarantees security and serves as a nucleus for the democratic process in Burundi. 

Burundi is emerging from a civil war which has pitted rebels of the Hutu majority against the Tutsi-dominated army. More than 200,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed during the conflict in the country of about seven million.
