UET or NUST

My cousin scored a smashing 950+ in his FSc and now has a choice between going to UET or NUST for Telecommunication Engineering

I suggested he should go with NUST but some say UET being an old experienced college can give him a better education.

Any input?

seeing how your cousin is smashing things already, send him to UET :k:

nust ahmedji,,,, UET is sort of oldish,,, and same with their syllabus.
nust main mummy daddy bachon kay saaath parhay ga to set ho jaye ga .

Being a former NUSTian and having alot of friends that went to UET lahore, I would suggest NUST to your friend, but only if he is planning to do his degree in Computer/Electronics/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering from the college of Electical and Mechanical Engineering. EME college is Pakistans best engineering school according to PEC (Pak Eng. Council) and NUST collectively is ranked as the best tech school in Pakistan by Asia Week and is 20th in Asia. Also, the faculty of EME college is exceptionally good, with alot of senior professors with degrees from prestigious universities, and alot of new faculty that completed their split masters (half in NUST, half abroad) programme. Another good thing about NUST is the fact that some of the instructors over there are running their own software and tech companies, for instance Avaz Networks, Care, AND or Logic, so they provide alot of career and internship oppurtunities to their students. I was offerred an internship at Enabling Technologies, the top tech company in Isloo at that time, simply because of my instructor, who knew me for one and a half year. I am sure your cousin will find a lot of competition there, as there were alot of students with above 900 marks in their FSc exam when I joined, since their admission critera is very challenging. If you have any questions about NUST, or the College of E&ME in particular, do let me know, I would be most willing to help you provide any information.

Don't know much about the two these days but my cousin got similar marks last year and opted to go to UET. He thinks he made the right choice !!

Telecommunication/Communication Engineering comes under the general umbrella of Electrical Engineering. Its a highly specialised field.

My dad had done his BSEE from UET back in the 60s from UET when it was one of the only premier engineering universities in Pakistan. After that he joined Pak Army in EME core. Army sent him to UK to do masters in Mechanical Engineering.
My brother graduated from NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering a couple of years ago and is now employed by the Ministry of Defence - An exrtremely sensitive work.
Having talked to my bro and dad regarding both institutions, I would pick NUST over UET for Electrical Engineering.

And btw, congrats to your cousin: 950+ in FSc :k: and having the choice to go to either of these colleges. He must be one smart fellow.

ahmadjee,

Don't know how or if this factors into anything at all but I see more EE/ CS graduates from UET [or even LUMS CS] than NUST in top engineering grad schools in the US.

Congrats and good luck to your cousin.

Thats because UET has been out there alot longer than NUST, and the class size of NUST is very small compared to UET, it was like 35 students in total (comp. engr. class) when I was there. I think a smaller class is better for students.

I dont think it matters where he goes bcz he is gonna smash it over either way lol!!

both schools r great. but UET considered to be a bit tough bcz of its old stylish syllabus lakin then again smashing is all there so no worries :)

NUST would be better...but im not sure he has a straight out choice between the two. FSc score sheet is not enough anymore. Aptitude tests are given by individual colleges in order to further screen students, apart from their FSc scores.
However, if he has already cleared that hurdle, then NUST is definitely better, not only in terms of qualities and facilities, but also in terms of time spent. NUST students routinely graduate in 3.5-4 years, compared to an average of 5 years for UET students.

Re: Re: UET or NUST

Its 3.5 years… :k: :k:

BTW ahmadjee, why isn't he considering GIK?

Well, he opted for NUST & the classes start on the 13th of next month, I think.

Wise choice... Which discipline is he enrolled in? In the first few weeks hes going to undergo some difficulties, mainly the idiotic seniors mocking the juniors, and the useless firs semester introductory courses, but after that hes going to have fun!!!

being an ex Uetian......i ll suggest DO'NT GO THERE..
i ll not talk about the studies level...not that much different academically but UET is no more a University...under the administration of new VC (Army) its better now to call it School of Engineering and Technology..during my session there, such changes were being introduced..means i have seen the old days of glory and recent situation too...
when u go to an istitute,u must not consider only its academics but also that what effects it will have on your personality...
so brother, to me , no more UET :(

Mechatronics is a new discipline and NUST was the first in Pakistan to introduce it, followed by UET. It is the combination of electrical and mechanical engineering, and is really good, especially for robotics, control and feedback systems. When I enrolled in NUST, the merit list for mechatronics was lower, but I heard its gone up now.

oh ok, thanx for sharing :)
