The second leg matches will be played on November 27th.

Newcastle United 1-0 Basle (Aggregate 4-2)

i am glad we went through which was good.

Dortmund were the first of the big sides to go out - its a change from a few years back when they were European Champions hey?

Anyhow a break from the UEFA cup now for the rest of the calendar year - it returns next year in about March or so.

Valerenga 1-1 Newcastle

pathetic display by the magpies - that's what happened when you don't have Alan on the field - thanks to Shay who ensure Newcastle avoid defeat in the first leg of the Uefa Cup! he made several saves.

yep bellamy scored a good goal on the volley but in the 2cond half it was all valarenga man  after the break they had us all over, their midfielders were kicking balls in deep and our defenders struggled!!!

god knows why sir bobby rested alan shearer + dyer + robert all our top players, alan was ********* at the end of the match he was ready to play.

but when robert came on as a sub’ he showed some class his 2 fierce shot were close, i’m glad it wa a draw and not a loss hopefullt we’ll do em’ @ home in the return leg.

come on magpies!!!

let uz chat - i think Sir Bobby did the right thing by resting Alan, Dyer and Robert - we have been playing Preimership too remember? it's not over yet but i have a feeling this is not a year for us - again :(

Newcastle 3-1 Valerenga (Agg 4-2)

Alan makes a point! (probably more so to Sir Bobby when he rested him) - well done to Shola who scored two goals - which shows a little bit of depth in our side.

*

the magpies were far from convincing in their win against valarenga, our 1st 2 goals were mistakes by the keeper, we couldn't keep the ball for long, we were 2 lazy in our approach to this leg, we better wake up warna real mallorca will do u's for good

*

Newcastle 4-1 Mallorca

YES - COME ON MAGPIES!

we are a step closer to Uefa quarter finals - thumping performance by us - especially in the second half! Bellamy and Kieron Dyer were declared fit after hamstring problems but Dyer's chances to play in tomorrow's Premiership game against Tottenham.

KEY MOMENTS

*57 mins: Correa scores for Mallorca
*67 mins: Bellamy slots in an equaliser
*71 mins: Shearer puts Newcastle ahead
*74 mins: Robert strikes with a free-kick
*83 mins: Moya gets his marching orders
*84 mins: Bramble completes the scoring

ok - the second leg of the Fourth-Round will be played today(tonight in Europe)

Robson welcomes PSV return

Sir Bobby Robson is relishing the prospect of a return to PSV Eindhoven in Thursday’s Uefa Cup tie.

**Robson was manager at PSV in the early 1990s, winning two consecutive league championships before returning for a second spell at the helm in 1998. **

“They are a smashing club run by some smashing people,” Robson told Newcastle’s official website.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces but we’re expecting a tough game.”

Robson added: "It was special for me when I went back to Barcelona with Newcastle in the Champions League and it will be a similar situation when I go back to PSV.

"It was a very special time in my life when I was in Holland after my eight years with England and I enjoyed my time there immensely.

But the 71-year-old is not expecting any favours from his old club on Thursday.

“PSV aren’t doing as well as they’d like in the league but they’ve had a good run to get this far and they’ll want to beat us.”

Magpies midfielder Gary Speed agreed with his manager’s assessment of PSV as a strong test of Newcastle’s European credentials.

“PSV have a reputation as a good team and it will be tough for us,” said Speed.

“Hopefully we can bring something back to St James’ Park. A draw anywhere in Europe is a good result although we’re going there to win the game.”

:k:

UEFA is for teams that did not make it to the champions league, right? ;)

that’s right Fraudz…the tournament Arsenal are no longer a part of thanks to Chelsea

I just watched the PSV Newcastle game and after dumping Feyenoord out of the Champions league last season, looks like they are well on course to give the boot to another hopeless bunch of Dutch cloggers :k:

score 1-1 with Newcastle firm favourites to win the return leg at St James.

kiss goodbye to the cup Shinzy

Uefa Cup quarterfinals first leg result

*Bordeaux 1-2 Valencia

*Celtic 1-1 Villarreal

*Marseille 1-0 Inter Milan

*PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Newcastle

================================

we have become the club who had scored in every game in European competition this season - again we were without Kieron Dyer - i just pray he will be fit for Premiership game this weekend

the game was dominated by PSV tho - who had a bright start - and were without their main duo Arjen Robben and Kevin Hofland but in the end Jermaine Jenas' equalizer gave us upper hand.
